Lesley and Mike, In the posting I sent, I have 2 trees that I have seen, and one has her marrying a William Taylor b 1773 and the other a Joseph Merriman.
and then a later Elizabeth Grimmett b 1834 and she married a William Taylor and he is b 1823, so as you can see am getting abit bewildered.
The other reason I am asking is that I have a William Taylor born into my tree, and I have him as being 1757 and marrying Sarah Cosier, and then others connected to my tree, have William Taylor b 1772/3 also marrying Sarah Cosier, and these are all from Stow on the Wold.Gloucestershire.
Plus then there is the William marrying Elizabeth Grimmett and he is suppose to have been born around the same time.
so am hoping you understand my predicament, and if possible would like to find out which one married her, and also we believe he may have been a mason as well,
regards
Christine

My advice is do not look at other trees as they may also have been confused and got it wrong. Start with what you know and work back from records. There may have been more than one Elizabeth Grimmet.

Tell us about your Elizabeth.

OK I have found one of the trees. The same person has several trees and only one public. but seems to think Sarah Cosier marriage took place 1802.

Found another now that says William and Sarah had a son Charles who emigrated but not much to back up.

Please post how you lead into the family and I will help. I think you have been got by one of those people who have made assumptions without proper back up and then their tree has been blindly copied. It causes great confusion.

Lady Kirra. sorry for not getting back to you sooner, wow you have just blown me away, with what info you have, just given me.
The William Taylor b 1757 that married Sarah Cosier is the son of John Taylor b 1715 Stow and his mother is Elizabeth James b ?
We know that Charles Taylor b/c 1808 was a mason, so we presumme that his father William was a mason as well.
The information on Charles is from documents we have, and have just been sent the above info on William Taylor b 1757 from a Clifford tree as apparently back around 1746 a Elizabeth Clifford was born and she married into the Taylor family.
So I really appreciate what you have been able to find what you have, can I ask please, how do you do it, I mean the research, as I have problems just trying to find simple things let alone ones like I just asked.
thanks again
Christine :-)

You are forgetting that I do not know everything you know and as I have said I think there are some confused mixed up trees out there, Could you post more of what you know for yourself i.e. backed up by census and I can use that as a starting point. I do not use GR records but have full membership of Ancestry and Findmypast. I also google everything.

remember because it is on some elses tree does not make it right.

LadyKira, thank you, and yes this is my Sarah Cosier, she is a ?? greatgrandmother.
Can I ask another question, you say that you google. do you always find what you are looking for?
also the William that married Sarah is my connection, the other William I believe is married to a Elizabeth Clifford.
I believe that on the 1841 census for William and Sarah, William is not from Stow, but there is the possibility he might have been from Worcs, am not sure where that is, could you possibly tell me where it is.
Also have you heard of a Bourton-on-the-Water, it is possibly in Gloucestershire, but I will google that myself and see what happens..
thanks again, it is after 12.30am where I live, 31st December, so it is News Years morning, so will most probably be back here later in the afternoon.
again thank you,
Christine ;-)

Stow on the Wold is very close to the the old borders of 4 counties Oxfordshire Worcestershire Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.

Try a site called Genuki for geography and google earth.

Bourton on the water is also very close. It is a pretty village.

LadyKira, thank you for these sites, yes they do lovely places, can I ask is findmypast helpful in looking for people. I am a member of ancestry, not the top one but the one under it.
I believe I found a William Taylor mason and his wife and son Thomas 21 in a 1841 census, and he is not born in that county, so he would not have been born Stow on the Wold, as were his wife and son.
It has been suggested that Worcs, is where some of the Taylor's could have come from, it is believed he was born either 1757/67 can you suggested where I would go to look please.

\i have both ww Ancestry and FMP as I find they both have something to offer.
As I mentioned Stow on the Wold is on the borders of 4 counties so highly likely he was born in Worcestershire. Some of mine are from a village a few miles from Stow on the wold and were born in Four shire stone farm sitting right on the boundaries. You can imagine the confusion that caused.
So yes Worcestershire was in walking distance. What was the name of the village?
