George Whittle (b 1856 Shevington Lancashire) married Matilda Comber (b 1862 Pemberton Lancashire) 1884 in Standish Lancashire. In 1884 they went to USA but I can't find them coming back to England. In 1886 they went to Australia where 2 of their children were born and returned to England 1893. Emigrated to NZ 1901. I would like to know when they returned to England from USA.

This may be a silly question but how do you know that they came back to the UK from the USA between 1884~1886. Could they not have gone on to Australia from the USA?

N.B. I note that when they returned to the UK on 5/7/1893 aboard the "Aller" the ship had sailed from New York. If this is the family that you are following I note that their birth years in 1893 appear different from those in your original post:

George c1841, Mathilde c1851, Annie c1877, Emilie c1884, Peter c1888

Annie, in Jonesey's family was born in 1877, so possible marriage for this couple?

Marriages Dec 1877 (>99%)
xxxx Sarson Matilda Barrow S. 7a 349
Toone Sarah Ann Barrow S. 7a 349
WARRINGTON Joseph Barrow S. 7a 349
xxxx WHITTLE George Barrow S. 7a 349

..........but that is just a theory!

EDIT:-
This George was born 1832 and this was a second marriage for him, so we can safely ignore this one.

Catherine that is the right family he married in 1884.
They went to Australia on the Chimborazo which sailed from London in 1886

Vivienne

Vivienne Report 9 Jan 2012 09:31

Jonesey that is Matilda's family and her sisters, she obviously named her children after them.

Jonesey Report 9 Jan 2012 09:32

Vivienne,

On what date and on what ship did the family arrive back in the UK in 1893? If it is the one that I found Their ages must have been mis-recorded.

Vivienne

Vivienne Report 9 Jan 2012 09:34

They arrived in Southampton on 5 Jul 1893 on the ship 'Aller'.

Catherine

Catherine Report 9 Jan 2012 09:37

If 1871 Matilda is the correct one, then she was born in 1863. A bit young to be having a child in 1877 (14yrs old) ?

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 9 Jan 2012 09:40

Presumably this is the family departing for New Zealand. Once again some of the children's ages are mis-recorded.

Thats the right deaths. Annie married Willilam Price, my husband's grandmother. I am mainly trying to find where Annie was born as apparently it wasn't in Lancashire as we thought. I have bought 3 wrong birth certificates for her and asked the Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust
Heritage Services and they couldn't find her either. Lots of Annie Whittle's but none with the right parents.

Vivienne

Vivienne Report 9 Jan 2012 09:51

Mary married Francis Price William's brother 1919 NZ and Peter married a sister Edith Maud Price so kept it all in the family.

Thanks for your help everyone. I am in Australia so different time zone. I have 2 birth certificates 1 for 1885 mother Martha Abbott father William and 2nd one 1886 mother Ellen Jackson father Dennis. Don't want to keep buying wrong certificates that is why I asked for help from the Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust
Heritage Services
Museum Of Wigan Life
This is the reply
We have found the marriage of George and Matilda married at Standish St Wilfred's on 1st January 1884. Unfortunately we have not been able to find a baptism for Annie Whittle. It may have been that they have moved out of the Lancashire area quite soon after they where married.
