Been for lunch, need to find a marriage for Martha Rowbottom to Richard Gregson. Also need to try to find her in 1881 and 1871, just to check.

Did she marry for a 3rd time after Gregson or am i missing the point - sorry

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 15 Apr 2012 16:32

Mark - that 1886 marriage is her daughter Eliza.

I wanted to be sure that it was actually her daughter so that I could find them in 1871 and 1881. I've confirmed that but I still can't find Martha, Handel or Eliza in those census.

It's possible that after her first husband died (although I can't find that marriage) she lived with someone else and they were recorded under that name.

Time for a fresh pair of eyes ......

Mark, Derek has a Derbyshire look-up thread http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/ancestors/thread/1191073

You could perhaps put a link to this thread and ask if he can find any records.

Martha's daughter Eliza was born Chapel-en-le-Frith 1865 ish, maybe he can find a baptism.

i'm beginning to doubt myself again now

Charles Gregson to Martha Rowbottom

MarieCeleste Report 15 Apr 2012 17:27

Yes, but WHAT YEAR is this marriage supposed to have happened!!

K

K Report 15 Apr 2012 17:43

On a different slant I think this might be Martha's mother and Martha with family in 1861. As Martha is listed as a weaver I think her age is badly written and she is 19 but she is listed as Cresswell!

1861??

K, that fits in nicely with the 1851 I posted - there was a Sarah Cressell on that.

Perhaps Elizabeth had children from before she married Philomen?

Mark

Mark Report 15 Apr 2012 18:01

As its a second marriage her husband and inlaw would not be related to me ..... just really interested in Martha and if her husband is Gregson (Charles)

I know boundaries have changed over the years between parts of Cheshire and Derbyshire:

Mark, I do think her husband was Richard - not Charles. Note the marriage of their son, father's name given as Richard.

The reason for tracing other branches of her family is to try to get the full picture in order to find that elusive marriage to Mr Gregson.

It's looking that Martha may actually have been born a Cresswell which might have helped lead us to the marriage but if you're not interested in that branch then I'll stop looking.
