Hi
Can anyone help with finding names of fathers of these two people who married in burnley in 1893? I have a child of theirs named edna born in 1895 in burnley who married william sutcliffe hewitt . William sutcliffe hewitt is buried in the same grave as mark duxbury who was born in oswaldtwistle in approx 1848. I am unsure as to the relationship of edna and mark although they have the same surname. I wondered if thomas was mark's brother but do not know thomas's age or fathers name to prove this, can anyone out there help.? I thought i may beable to find the answer on lancashire bmd or parish clerks but no luck.

A copy of the couples marriage certificate should name both their fathers.

Alternatively find them on the 1901 census to determine when and where they were born and then check the earlier census records to see if you can locate them with their family.

Thanks guys, youve found the burwin's. Yes, ancestry keeps putting danbury for the name duxbury on a few census with a few different families. And when i look at the original census record, it definately looks like duxbury.
I am hoping that thomas is either a cousin or brother of my mark duxbury. In 1861 mark and his family were in oswaldtwistle, then moved to burnley in 1871. .

There must be a relationship somewhere , musnt there?

Well i am still confused as have never noticed my duxburys having connections to hapton or padiham. The reason i am going round the houses is because ultimately i am trying to find the father and mother of marks dad. Mark was born in 1848 in oswaldtwistle to thomas duxbury and ann nee hirst/hurst. They married in oswaldtwistle in 1844. There first child was betty and mark was one of the other children. I know that john duxbury, weaver, was thomas's dad, but which john duxbury? And i have no idea of his mothers name. Some people have tried to connect my thomas (born approix 1823) to the colne duxbury's but i still dont think that can be correct. They do have a mark born in 1858 though.
Perhaps we have found a clue, if maybe george from hapton is a cousin or brother to marks dad, thomas. ?

The father of Mark Duxbury born in 1845 was Mark Duxbury who was born in Rishton.

Well yiou have a good point. i have wondered about that one too. But if on the 1851 mark 2's father was also named mark and he was born in rishton, then thats a good thing maybe. as my original thomas, born approx 1823 to john duxbury was born in rishton too. I wonder if mark senior born approx 1809 could be john 's brother. ? So, though this mark who died in 1918 may not have been my mark, he could be cousin of my mark.
I have also found a mention of a mining accident of a mark duxbury aged 28 at aspen colliery in oswaldtwistle in 1875, where it says roof fell in. But it does not say wether mark was killed or just injured.
So, maybe i should get the death certificate of mark , the one who died in 1918 just to check if it could be my mark or the manchester mark . I am sure they are all connected anyway somehow. I just dont know how yet.

I found the death and burial of mark duxbury via burnley library, via lancashire parish clerks. In the grave with mark was a mary duxbury died in blackpool in 1912 aged 65, william sutcliffe hewitt, mark in 1918 and fred procter i think aged 40 in 1936, from memory. I didnt recognize any of the names so i just tried to find out more about them. I cannot think of any other way to discover the mystery of john duxbury, other than to work through burials, wills etc. I have been trying to find which john duxbury is mine for the past fifteen years or more and tried every angle. I have thought that johns wife may have been a betty because their first child was a betty. But there are lots of choices for jon and bettys in the surrounding areas of oswaldtwistle, blackburn, great harwood and rishton.
May just check now wether mark duxbury from the mining accident in 1875 actually survived. will check freebmd. But i have not found a marriage for this mark so just thought maybe he was disabled and maybe found it difficult to get a marriage partner.?

But still mark is down as 73 in 1918 which makes him born about 1845, but on the 1911 census you have sent, he is down as 57 in 1911 , which isnt correct either. i just dont know..... but thanks for all your help anyway. goodnight

on lancsbmd there is only one Mark Duxbury born Oswaldtwistle c1848 - mmn = Hurst
there are 6 other children who seem to have the same parentage - all born Ossie

William (1850), Nancy (1851), Thomas 1853, Ann (1855), George (1857) and James (1859)

As shown by the marriage information found by Barbara I am inclined to think that you have been following the wrong Duxbury line.
