Hi Shirley
If you would like to write a message to the tree owner, send it me by PM and I will send it via the tree on Ancestry. you could maybe include you own e-mail in case the tree owner isn't a member of GR

Hi Barbara
Thanks for that. Yes, difficult one. The tree on ancestry wont let me open it. I can only open it in work, i work in library at colne, we have free subscription there. Does it give a name of the person. ? wondering if its geoff duxbury? he is a distant cousin, and years ago he did suggest we were connected to the colne lot, but i was never convinced. dont know why, just instinct maybe|? Think in work we dont have access to full ancestry, as i dont usually get to go on trees, just the search stuff. Will ask a friend and maybe try and get message to them that way.
Its just one of those mysteries that i hope one day to solve. Really grateful for all your help, and jonesy's too. Will let you know if i ever succeed in finding who john duxbury really is.
regards
shirley :-)

Hi Shirley
This is the link to the tree

http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/27158286/person/2003837820

It does say they haven't been on for 3 months ---but you can click on their name and send a message.

I have searched for hours on the 1841 census, but still coming up with nothing :-S

Hi Barbara
just to add, just found proof that thomas duxbury born colne in 1823 is not the same as my thomas, born rishton area. Colne thomas married ann kershaw in 1845 in rochdale of all places. And he died around 1895 i think. So the ancestry tree is wrong, is there any way of altering that info so noone else makes the same mistake ?? Jonesy seemed to know how to let them know of errors.?

Hi Barbara
Just been looking at the colne duxburys via the duxbury family tree which is now run by ron, but was formerly run by peter duxbury. On here, the thomas you mention is baptised in 1823 at colne parish church and it seems like they are living in waterside colne while they have their children. i suppose, as i dont notice them having children after thomas as a couple, this is maybe why they may be thought to have moved over to rishton/oswaldtwistle area.? And on the site, there is no mention of this thomas marrying. I dont know, but i am sure i found something to disprove they originated in colne. going to keep on looking.

Hi Barbara
Thanks for the add of richard, i didnt have that, but i do remember he was in a public grave.
But the Colne connection is wrong. Someone a while ago decided the colne lot were ours, but they arent. It would be good if they were, there is a lot of info and a book on the colne duxburys, and i work in colne in the library so i would be in the ideal spot.
They do have a mark duxbury born 1858 though, so not sure if somewhere they have a distant connection. They do have a thomas born at a similar time. But think i have tracked that thomas, and he is not the same as mine. They are probably down on the 1841 census in colne(nancy and thomas) as danbury like lots of the duxbury's on ancestry. will have a look. think it was a distant cousin who connected us to the colne lot, and he was very good at research, so i will double check in case i have missed something, but i think i did find something in the past that disproved it.
thanks barbara
will post if i find that disproving fact . :-)

opps, yes, my memory playing tricks. was sure he died in barnsley. He was very young, ive not got death certificate but another cousin has somewhere. Hannah smith remarried to william jones, born in paris apparently. Think they went on to have arthur jones. Yes, thats pathinia. Shame none of their children survived past early years.
I know im focussing on trying to find the source of john duxbury, but really i do like the human stories and would love a photo of any of them, unfortunately havent managed that yet. The people that have been managing the duxbury family tree have not been able to join my tree to the main one yet, its a very hard task, but i refuse to give up. there is a clue out there somewhere.
thanks to anyone who has helped me, suggestions and help most gratefully recieved.

Yes, thanks barbara, you have the right family. Think Richard died in the 1870's , will check, but have been so sidetracked with trying to get further back that ive not looked at richard etc for years. He died in wombwell, area anyway, very young. Hannah came back with children. Think poor pathinia died young too, her husband , william cundy gilbert remarried after her death. Dont think they had any surviving children. But Abel had some, one of which was leonard. Abel married elizabeth parr, daughter of allen parr and they were originally from wigan. William cundy gilbert was from cornwall.
Thanks for telling me about alfred, i didnt know about him. Abel had a son called alfred also, but he survived.
Its very late, going to bed now. I am addicted to family history....

But hannah and her two children moved back to burnley and hannah remarried to a william jones from france. Abel duxbury married elizabeth parr and had leonard duxbury think about 1890. Its that long since ive looked at them. Then leonard married my great gran Mary hannah pickles and had my grandad herbert duxbury. Herbert married mabel hocking and had my mum . So its all correct until thomas and i can not get further back than him, due to John being such a common name . ! :-)

Just to add barbara, richard duxbury died in wombwell, he married hannah smith . They had two children before his death, abel and pathinia, who i think were born in wombwell.
