Thanks for that Jax, I have several that were disabled, run over by a cart & some lost limbs, so may be they will not be shown.

I dont suppose it was compulsary to give those details anyway.

Infact they only ask if there was anyone who was deaf, dumb, blind, imbosile, lunitic or feeble minded...no mention of "cripple" in the 1911 nor on the 1901 that I can see

Thank you very much LindaB, Jax, Margee & sylvia that is all very helpful.

That is very odd about William G Vanner , I had thought he may have in the Workhouse as a Patient ,but you say he was not, may be he got drunk once to often & she kicked him out ;-) could they could have made a mistake in saying he was single?

William George VANNER died in1932 & is buried St John's Church Ryde his address was given as Woodvale Cottage, High St, Oakfield, so he must have come out of the workhouse his wife died1923 her burial Address is 15 High St, Oakfield Ryde.

Frances had a daughter before she married William, I found only one marriage for lily CHESSELL to Albert Edward
Hodges, I found him in the 1911 census index, please can someone look him up.
Again thanks to all.

There is nothing in the end column on FMP and it is transcribed as Vanner

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 26 Jul 2012 05:14

That could indeed be William in the Workhouse ....................... William in 1891 was a Bricklayer's Labourer, so the occupations match, as well as age and birth year.

The disability column is still whited out on ancestry ....... so there is no knowing what he was suffering from. But he is shown as Inmate, not Patient as are some others.

This, I think, is an indication that he was not in the hospital section of the Work House.

Ancestry does have him on the Record Sheet as Vanier ........... but it is indeed Vanner on the census image.

It would probably be worth your buying that death certificate to see who recorded hi death.

It may be that the marriage broke down, and he left Frances, ending up in the Work House while plying his trade.
