none of us are "official helpers" Edward, we are all fellow members who enjoy digging around the census and as Reggie and I both state, we have no connection to the person we are helping

Edward

If you had read ALL of my post of 22:53 yesterday................................your post of 23:08 would have been unnecessary

When one joins a club, the first thing one does is familiarise oneself with its rules

If you can't take constructive advice from fellow-members, the problem is yours.......not theirs

Your nonsensical remarks about 'authority' show how unaware you are of this site's structure

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 16 Sep 2012 08:38

You have been advised how..............use freebmd and do the research.

You don't even know, as yet, whether any of them married and produced children

Sidney was single in 1911 at the age of 37

Mabel was unmarried in 1901

patchem

patchem Report 16 Sep 2012 08:15

It can be very difficult to find cousins and second cousins.
If you look for possible marriages and the people have common names and married in a different area you end up with too many possibilities.
Did none of them leave Brecon (how do you know?)
That is why on here you are recommended to seek common ancestors and contact people with them in their tree.

If you are worried about information being deleted, then copy and paste it to your own computer.

Right then! You've shown me how to research my ancestors (a lot of whom I've found but there are serioui gaps) Now - how do I find my cousins and second cousins probably living in Brecon? Some of you must know. HELP!

Edward

Edward Report 15 Sep 2012 23:12

Thank you Ann. I've never used that site. I'll have look. See - it's thing like this can be very useful - not being told off by GR.

Edward

Edward Report 15 Sep 2012 23:08

Reggie, have you read my subsequent message to you re not knowing that you were an official helper? If I''ve done something wrong, I'll take the blame, but only from those who have the authority to censure me. I repeat : Advice is golden, (et seq).

www.familysearch.org

this is the free Mormon LDS site from which I found what I posted - well worth a look

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Sep 2012 22:59

Part of that which was deleted was my advice to look at freebmd and find info about them

Also to use the site's 'search all trees' facility

The census info I posted gave you a time-scale for a couple of them

Edward

Edward Report 15 Sep 2012 22:56

By the way all people trying to help me, I can't post what Reggie so thoughtfully provided about my family, because GR have deleted the whole blinking lot. That is part of my gripe with them. There was a lot of info on there and it has now disappeared! How can it be that with such brilliant volunteer helpers they have such a rigid sense of discipline which negates the feelgood factor? They should be on my side - I'm paying for the service - I don't need to be slapped down for some tiny error.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 15 Sep 2012 22:54

apology accepted - well to be honest, as far as descendnts go, I can't be much help really - I'm better at digging around the dead!!

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 15 Sep 2012 22:53

To clarify..................

I advised Edward to remove his e-mail and telephone number, which, if he'd read the site guidelines when joining, he would know were not permitted.

I did NOT...repeat NOT report his post.........I gave him the chance to amend it

As he has chosen to vilify me on here, I will copy the PM he sent to me

Thank you once again Reggie for your solicitous attention to my misdemeanour, Since you are not a member of the GR staff, I would ask you not to send messages which purport to give yourself a position of authority or the right to censure us stupid newcomers. Advice is golden, verbal smackings from peers are offensive and inappropriate. GR have contacted me, quite rightly, to advise me of the correct procedure. They have the right to do this - you can only sympathise and shake your head in pity at my stupidity.

I have since received the following PM......................

From: Edward Edwards
6:27 PM
Clarification: Dear Reggie, I now find that there are some worhty people on GR known as "Helpers". If indeed, you are such a helper, then please accept my apologies for castigating your actions. Far be from me any such intention.

My reply.........so there can be no misrepresentation

If you'd 'genned up' on the site first, you'd have known how it operates, and would not have embarrassed yourself by sending such an unpleasant message to me

GR do NOT monitor the boards.....their message to you was as a result of the reporting of your thread by a member

Ann, you have been most helpful as have other people on this site although Reggie made me feel very small! (You probably did not see what he wrote). My gripe is with GR who don't seem to support me. All the people on here have been most helpful. Please do not take offence. I put my mobile phone number and my e-mail address in my posting. OK - so what? The world will not come to an end. GR seem to think I'm Jack the Ripper. If you can re-consider giving me some help, I should be most grateful. Same applies to Gins. Absolutely no offence intended, I am gratified that someone is interested in my quest. I am a most placid person, believe me. Nothing to do with being Welsh - just a laid-back individual trying to get along with life.

AnnCardiff Report 15 Sep 2012 22:45

I took take offence I think you should apologise at the very least - if you canlt manage an apology I shall have no hesitation in reporting you for an abusive posting - which let's face it - it is abusive

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 15 Sep 2012 22:35

Now come on Edward, I in particular did my utmost to help you - I messaged you immediately I saw your email address and phone number and I advised you to post on "Find Living Relatives" and to check in trees on this site - I cannot believe what you have written - I feel we were extremely friendly and caring towards you and am quite surprised by your posting - I hope you are more polite to people on Ancestry and may I add also, I feel quite ashamed that a fellow Welshman should act in such a manner

Edward

Edward Report 15 Sep 2012 22:01

Hi everybody helping. I've got all my family right back to 1845. I'm now looking for descendants of my great-grandmother. I've been all through hot matches etc and came on to this site to see if I could get better luck. I've been told off and had a posting removed. Good start then. I'LL PROBABLY QUIT GENES REUNITED AND SIGN UP WITH ANCESTRY UK WHO SEEM A MUCH FRIENDLIER BUNCH TO BE HONEST WITH YOU.
