GAWD, hope his family isn't as complicated as this one! Good to hear from you Jude.

Nice to see you're holding up, and keeping up the research. I'll be back next month with other subs if my internet keeps holding out - can't believe with a booster antenna and Wi-Fi box I've now got 4G:) Absolute luxury - apart from when OH crashes it - MEN.

Your posting on my thread made me come back to this, remembering we still hadn't put Eva to bed.

Have you investigated this death, it's just whoever registered has guessed at her age so couldn't have known her that well.

Deaths Dec 1973 (>99%)

BEVAN EVA ABOUT1884 GLOSSOP 10A 2329

I can't see a probate record, and there is no entry on the Bona Vacantia lists - also not sure if the DC would be of any help in deciding if it is your Eva.

Ha Flip! I re-read this only the other day!

Funnily enough, your post got me going on Eva again today :-) I sort of looked at this death and wondered....

I am almost as sure as I can be that she did not marry - I have looked at several potentials (from 1939 register) and can rule them all out (though I am going to double check.

I have been through all the births of her siblings and, just like her's, the actual birth date or year is wrong on at least half of them in the school records. So I know the registration was September quarter 1880 and therefore I am going for 08 July (she was baptised on 08 August) and not the 08 November in the school record.

I am going to have a go at double-checking this evening and then maybe I will try a death certificate (there aren't many that come near)

I don't know that the DC will give you any confirmation - likely to have been registered by someone who didn't know her well, hence the "approx" birth year rather than a DOB. She would have been in her 90s so maybe no close family still living or known?

Your uncle was (as you say) a black sheep, so maybe she kept a low profile as well.

You always have to throw a spanner in the works Choccy!!!

But, was her son or husband still around at the time of death - if so why an estimate of birth year and not knowing her dob?

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 19 Mar 2017 19:20

The Glossop death can't be right...she was in Newport when Edward was born.

So timeline I am sure of:
Born 1880 baptised 08 August
1918 imprisoned for 2 months
Charles and Maria at 36 Constance Street 1918-1922
Maria dies 09 May 1922 - Charles gone from electoral role by Autumn
Writes will 18 November 1922 in Bridgwater, dies 02 MAY 1926..

Roll on 1921 census - back in 4 years time :-)

You are assuming that the 1939 (1973 death) is the one I found for the death - what if that isn't the right one? Just throwing doubts on Choccy's find - not sure it is the same person as age is out even more.

Just challenging you out further!

It looks like a number of others were buried in the same grave reference, according to the site Chris posted.

But not husband Ernest Bevan (from 1939 register) who died in 1960. According to Edwards birth her maiden name was Kirk, and the parents marriage is registered Ashton, 1908, they had at least 3 children from what I can see - surely if one of them was alive they would have at least remembered her birthday or age?

I'm not trying to argue against the 1939 Choccy posted, it could well be correct, but rather eliminate this death if possible - on the premise one down, even more to go!! You were dubious the death I posted for CDL was likely - but it turned up to be right as your dad had registered it.
