I'm still looking for Alexander. :-D

Aspen Report 21 Jan 2015 18:26

I was able to get all the baptism records from the Church. It was 1901 census that his age appeared different and then I found his army records and noted 1860. I was able to trace his siblings but not him. It was said that he emigrated to Australia. He was quite old to emigrate as well. :-S

You say Alexander thought he was born 1860 although you have a birth date of 1856. Is it possible that the Alexander born in 1856 died and the parents named a later son Alexander? Not uncommon.

I have been doing some research again and it is possible that Alexander was still in Donegal in 1912 and emigrating to Australia much later than first thought. I was told that he wanted his Nephew to travel with him but his Nephew's wife did not want to go. I know that they married 1915, so possible after 1915. :-D

Pam
I have been to the Church and I can only find his date of birth and when baptised. Nothing else for him. I did find info for his siblings there. I have found his army records and found him in 1901 census, but nothing after that. :-(
Regards

Aspen,
If you look at the parish record for his birth, you may find information about his emigration, etc.
I found the marriage and death information for my husbands grandfather against his birth entry in the parish records. Born Donegal, married/died Scotland.

Good luck, Pam

P.S. A strong magnifying glass and a knowledge of latin was required. :-D

I have been looking in Trove, never knew about it before, and wondered about a death 28th. August 1933 ALEXANDER SPENCE 2 Andrew street Balmain but it states Elizabeth Leishman as his wife. It states that Leishman, Elizabeth wife and family are invited to attend the funeral of her beloved husband and their father Alexander Spence to leave 2 St Andrew Street Balmain this Wed at 1.30pm for Presbyterian Cemetery
I thought this was interesting.......could it be him? Why was her name not Spence?
