Hi again! I have researched quite a lot of the Stevens family and have - I think - found my Stevens family!! Fingers crossed!
I have found Jacob Stevens b. c1811 Wisbech St Mary, Wisbech, his wife Ruth b. c1811, unknown and Isaac Stevens c1831 Terrington St Clement, Jacob 1833c, Phoebe c1835, George c1837 and John c1839 and living at Governor's Marsh, Terrington St Clement.
I have found the baptism for Isaac (05/09/1830 son of Jacob and Ruth, Wisbech St Mary).
At the 1811 census, the family were living at Governor's Marsh, Terrington St Clement . His son, William Stevens c1841 Terrington St Clement was married to Phoebe Neve b. c1833 Hethersett Norfolk.
I have tried to glean information via GR tonight, but haven't been able to find any information about this family at all and am hoping that you might be able to help please?
Many thanks
Jayne - with fingers tightly crossed!

Ooops! not GR, but FMP!

You have put '1811' census - which do you mean?
How did you get back to this family - who are your direct ancestors?
Thanks

Jayne

Jayne Report 31 Oct 2012 22:26

Sorry about that - I should have said 1841 census - They were living at Governor's Marsh Terrington St Clements with 5 x children.
The further info I have found is a William Stevens who married Phoebe Neve as above and I am hoping that he is the right one.
With apologies, but I've exhausted all if the other Stevens families and am hopeful that Terrington is the right one.
Many thanks
Jayne

I think Stephan is a mistranscription of Stevens

Jayne Report 31 Oct 2012 22:36

Hi again Penny,
I am also looking for a connection to William Stevens b. c1841 Terrington St Clement as I have fallen foul of folks who say that theirs is the right one, and I will have to delete this branch of my family and start again, and so it would be really helpful if William could fit in?
Thanks
Jayne

Hi Patchem,
That's the problem - I had a tree for a long while, thinking that I was ok with my research and - following yet more advice from folks who are Stevenses, I have fallen flat on my tree and will have to cancel everyone in my tree and start again. The good thing is that I have been researching my family and have certificates to confirm - it's just the William Stevens I have to find - In Terrington - as I need to find William's parents to be sure it is correct . Any help you might be able to find would be really appreciated. The folks I am also looking for is my ancestors above what I have at the moment and would love to find out if William Stevens c,1841 Terrington St Clement is actually my ancestor and also Jacob and Ruth and their family.
many thanks
Jayne

Which person is definitely your ancestor?
I mean, if necessary, someone born in the 1860's. 1870's or whenever.
There is no William, 1841, in either census posted above.
You cannot mean cancel everyone in your tree, surely, some of it must be accurate?
If you work backwards then you have grandparents, great-grandparents all with certificates etc, so where does it fall down?
Thank-you

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1312455

(the above was a 'Thread' connected, back to marriage of Phebe Neve, William Stevens, but no further on parentage of William, which I believe is what Jayne is, or was looking for)...

Barbara Report 1 Nov 2012 07:56

If William and Phoebe were married in 1852 he could not have been born in 1841
and the marriage states his father was William
Info from the other thread

There are 2 William Stevens with a father William on the 1841 census living in Norfolk 1 born 1829 and the other 1832 but no way of finding if these are the correct one

Cannot find a census with William and Phoebe after 1852 which could help

Jayne

Jayne Report 1 Nov 2012 16:44

Hi Barbara and Chris Ho:)
Thanks for your replies - Thomas Henry Stevens was born on 19/01/1866 but William was deceased at the time of Thomas Henry's birth. Phoebe noted the birth with a cross.
The marriage for William and Phoebe on 26th December 1852 notes that William Stevens senior (whoever he was?????) and is noted as a labourer on the marriage certificate. As for Phoebe, she married Matthew Cozens from South Creake and between them they ran the Park View Hotel in King's Lynn (now a block of flats!)
I have - In Terrington St Clement - a Jacob Stevens, his wife Ruth and children Isaac, 1831c, Jacob 1833c, Phoebe 1835 c George c1837, John c1839 and the last I saw of William's info, he was aged 1841 born Terrington St Clement.
Thanks for your help, though - I really think this might be the one, but need to know.
Kindest regards
Jayne

Hi Barbara and Chris Ho:)
Thank you both so much for answering my question and for the info - this makes much more sense and answers where the missing link was!
I will have to unpick my tree now, but at least I will have it all ok !
Do you know the registration for Stow by any chance? If so I could find the correct certificate?
Thanks again for your help - you have helped me so much - but I am a very happy lady!! And the Jacob and Ruth folks have gone out of the window!
