I wondered what had happened to Emma Allington in 1871, as she wasn't with her 'Harrington' sisters and father.

Seems she was taken in by another family.

Christina deseves all the kudos for that 1871 census find - that was brilliant!

Given that Emma was born in Northampton c1865, and Prickly Holly's death for Mary A Allington isn't until 1867, it looks like Emma is Mary Ann's daughter and a full sister o Louisa and Jane.

Henry and Louisa do give different addresses, whether for propriety's sake, or because she isn't the same Louisa as he was with in 1871 I don't know.

EDIT: Looking at census 1881 in next post, it looks like the Philips marriage in 1888 is correct, so Henry just took his own sweet time getting round to making an 'honest woman' of Louisa.

I think that census 1871 was an excellent find on Christina's part.

As per Christina - Henry has been dittoed Ireland from the person above, could it have been a mistake? Dates for Louisa and Jane fit, though Henry has lost a few years. Henry has the right occupation.

I wonder if these are the Allington girls in 1871? I don't have access to check Henry's occupation or verify his pob on the image.

I had the same problem finding the Allington girls (Jane and Louisa) together (with or without parents) in 1871.

Not too worried about lack of birth for Jane, as not all births got registered at that time, even though they were meant to be.

I suppose there's always the chance Mary A brought Jane into the marriage, though she does give Henry Allington bootmaker as her father on the marriage register, as does Louisa.
