Looking for info on George Dixon (Ireland) who married a Margaret Hull (Ireland) daughter Ellen( Nellie) Constance. They may have married approx 1874. Nellie came to England for education. Nellie married a Cecil Chaplin in 1901. Any info would be appreciated.

I know you probably have the info I've posted, but the idea is to help with tracing Ellen, as a starting point

Unfortunately, she only gives 'Ireland' for her birthplace - not very informative

You are basing your estimate of the parents' marriage on Ellen's birth year, I imagine.

This assumes that she was the first -or only - child of the marriage

Thank you very much for the info. Some I have, some not. I have the marriage certificate of Ellen n Cecil. These were my Maternal Grandparents.

If the death posted by Reggie is correct, I think this is the probate:

Cecil Horace Chaplin <<of Old Lodge, Taplow, Bucks
Probate Date: 6 Aug 1906
Death Date: 19 Mar 1906
Death Place: Buckinghamshire, England
Registry: London, England

Probate to Nellie Catherine Chaplin, widow - £452 15s 8d so not sure as the middle name is wrong.

To everyone, thank you for all the info. Yes Cecil was the son of Clifford Waterman Chaplin. Cecil died in 1906.
All this added info is fantastic, so thank you all again. Not quite the brick wall I had.
No I do not have George Dixon`s occupation.
Thank you for the probate details, possibly confusion with the C, Catherine instead of Constance.

Hello Jennifer, you shouldn't start new threads about the same family.
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1318446

This is from the new thread

"Nellie became a widow in 1906 after Cecil her husband died. They had one daughter, and I cannot find the death of Nellie or maybe a remarriage. I have found her with her daughter in 1911 census and that is the last I have. Nellie it seems was born in Ireland, yes thats all i have."

Could you go and delete the other one?

Jennifer, if Ellen/Nellie was your maternal grandmother then who was her child that you're descended from? Do they have no knowledge of what happened to her?

On your tree on Ancestry you have Nellie's death as 1937 Q1 "unknown" - where did that info come from?

Where were they in 1911?

The reason I've put ?? next to Annie Greenow and Andrew F Haydon is that their entries, along with those of Nellie and Marjorie had been completed in the same handwriting (might be coincidence, though).

I do think that Annie Greenow may have been Nellie's maid as she has put the same birthplace. Looks like they have put where they came from (perhaps where they lived last) rather than where they were born.

Nellie has also lopped a few years off her age!

Jennifer...Given the pedigree of the Chaplin family it may be worth checking out a will or probate for Clifford Waterman Chaplin father of Cecil..it may have mentioned something about Cecil's daughter which may give you a clue..

But I do wish posters would put up what they already know! Saves time in looking over old ground.

Then again, this is harsh - the OP was looking for info on the previous generation in Ireland!

MarieCeleste Report 27 Jan 2013 15:07

No, you're not being harsh Flip! What we're looking at now is a new request for what happened to Nellie after she was widowed (I copied it from the new thread started)

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 27 Jan 2013 15:13

The more I look at it, the more I think Nellie was with Andrew Haydon on the 1911 census. I've traced him back a bit and he was born Andrew Frederick Temple Haydon.

Came across this:

Edinburgh Gazette - 1 September 1911

Bankrupts - Receiving Orders

Included in the list is Andrew Frederick Temple Haydon of 20 Pall Mall Street, London.

(Same address as he gives on 1911).
______________________________________________________________

His wife twice filed for divorce:

J 77/917/7855 Divorce Court File: 7855. Appellant: Blanche Catherine Ann Haydon. Respondent: Andrew Frederic Temple Haydon. Type: Wife's petition for divorce [wd]. 1907

J 77/2376/4270 Divorce Court File: 4270. Appellant: Blanche Catherine Ann Haydon. Respondent: Andrew Frederick Temple Haydon. Type: Wife's petition for divorce [wd]. 1927

The papers for the first petition are on ancestry. She was divorcing him for adultery, which he didn't seem to dispute. There's loads to read so will be back ......

Added:
She cites the widow of Cecil H Chapman as being the person her husband committed adultery with.
