That's a good point. I think you are right . . . that's the most likely information that fits right now. Thank you.

I thought you had decided the death in Bradford in 1896 was him....if not dont know who he was, as there is nothing on a Matthew Cutting born 1829. Remember the info on the death cert is only as good as the informant knew

Thank you all for this fabulous information. The death of Matthew Cutting Snr (born around 1837 or 1839 near Grimstone Norfolk) still eludes me but you have really helped flesh out my ancestors.

Co-incidence or not?

Alfred Cutting's apparently estranged wife was named Emma in the census, but according to FreeBMD marriages she may well have been Emily Lill.

One of the children of Walter and Selina Cutting is Alfred Lill Cutting.

Tania - re "I know one of the children, Alfred ended up in British Columbia"

Are you sure abt that - there was an Alfred Cutting, also aged 18 in 1881, that died in BC, but he wasn't your guy.
Course, there might have been more Alfreds, but I think you should check.

Many thanks. I've looked at the original transcript on Ancestry and it looks like a mistake has been made with the transcription and it is Matthew Cutting. I believe Matthew's father may have been William Cutting and so perhaps the William is a brother like you say. I wonder what ever happened to his parents for the boys to end up in the Workhouse. What a sad time.
