I can't see anything, either, for an obvious death. The only certain date is that he was deceased by the time Thomas got married in 1911.

Some more school dates:

16/11/1888 Mowlem Street School:
Jane Nott - father George of 21, Havelock Square b.26/9/81
Robert Nott - - ditto - b.1/6/83

Feb.1888 Cranbrook Road School:
Wm. Knott - father Geo. of 6, Derby Place b. 5/80

Not good news for the electoral registers for 35, North Street.

1893 - Jonathan Charles Davies

1894, 1895 and 1896 - No-one eligible to vote listed. House nos. jump 34, 36, 37

1897 - Alfred Eighteen (same as on the 1901 census).

Afraid not. Mare Street was just the main road that North Street ran off. North Street is on the electoral rolls, it's just that the people at no.35 living from 1894 to 1896 weren't eligible to vote.

Have you had any luck finding the 1865 marriage certificate?

Cindy

Cindy Report 19 Mar 2013 12:50

Thank you for the above info.

I have checked my records and no, no death record for George :(

I noticed when i was searching for Mrs Ogan/Hogan at 35 North Street that the address on one of the school admissions had 'Mare Street 'written underneath...? Road name change maybe?? or maybe she lived at both??

Would rule out George and family on 1891 then!...

(perhaps the 1866 Marriage, and Margaret Death Certs. might be handy, seems a few researching, but nobody has them, or not sure if I've missed details)

no you havent ,missed them Chris, no one has found them yet.

I was thinking about the theory someone had that Thomas'd father George and his mother were not married. So if Aunt is Mrs Ogan/Hogan, she must be Thomas's mums sister (before or after her marrriage) or his mums brothers wife.. but cant get my head around how that helps narrow the search..

ChristinaS Report 21 Mar 2013 08:53

Mrs. Hogan, the aunt, is very difficult to pin down. On Robert's admission to the home in 1893 she calls herself Mrs. Knott.

I don't know if this means she was a Mrs. Knott, who then married Mr. Hogan, or that she was a Mrs. Knott who lived with a Mr. Hogan, so used his name sometimes.

I can't see a Knott/Hogan marriage.

Either way, it looks as if she was related to George Knott rather than the mother.

I don't suppose you remember whereabouts in West Ham the George Knott/Margaret Trayhorn marriage took place do you? I've looked through all the West Ham marriage records, but couldn't find it. So it looks as though the marriage must have taken place in the West Ham registration district, but not in West Ham intself.
