Yes I found that but kind of taken it out of the equation ... he was 75, a butcher BUT living in Whitby.

Also, his informant was an Elizabeth Goodwill, no connection mentioned ... she was merely 'present at the death'.

So not sure about that one! From the NBI it seems he was buried in Whitby Churchyard but can't find a burial for his wife from 1849 on the same programme. So, not sure. What do you think?

From my burial index there was a Jane Wood buried in November 1855 in Whitby aged 82 - not the same one.

Re Joseph, I suppose he could have moved to Whitby, perhaps in poor health.
The age and occupation are right, or near enough.

As for the daughters, I have no idea, but will keep browsing.

I don't see the death of an Albert Faulkner (or variation of spelling) , of marriageable age, anywhere on FreeBMD or Ancestry in 1870-71.

I wonder if they divorced, but for the sake of respectability Mary said she was a widow?

Richard is her son, as in 1891 and 1901.
Johanna is her sister-in-law.

As for Gateshead, that's just one of those fascinating insoluble mysteries which genealogy throws up! Working, perhaps? Training? She's a cook in 1881.

Good luck with the rest of your search - can't find any trace of Jane, and Joseph's death still in doubt..

I don't see him in 1871 or after 1891.
The 1916 death which you have seems the most likely, from the point of view of age.
