Sharon,
You really need to buy the marriage certificate of your grandmother. This will give you her father's name and occupation which will help confirm which Rowan marriage is the correct one!

If it's Martin, then you know it's the Hennessey marriage
If it's James, then you know it's the Lydon one.

Sorry Sharon, but I can't find a Mary K. Rowan born in 1923 anywhere in the country.

The closest I could get was the one I posted earlier who was born in 1921 Warrington with mother's maiden name Lydon. She had a sister called Ann who was born in 1924?

There is also a John born in 1928 and a Vincent born in 1931?

Sharon Marie

Sharon Marie Report 16 Apr 2013 21:14

gosh i thought john was younger, and i was not aware of the other children . i think they were all split up and were sadly put into care so there has never been much spoke about ...thanks guys for your help

It's always possible that Mary's family decided to add the middle name of Kathleen after the birth was registered.

That happened with my brother (but his middle name isn't Kathleen!).

Martin Rowan married Jane Hennessey in 1905 and had the following known children:-

John 1906
Catherine 1908
Henry 1910

James V. 1912
William 1914
Frank 1916
Wilfred 1919
Mary 1923 (but no middle name shown)
Vincent 1925

..............but no Ann unless one of the girls had a middle name Ann which also doesn't show on the record.

Sharon, I think there is a chance of us getting confused now!

Are you saying that Anne was the eldest of your gran's siblings? Or is that just the oldest that you know about?

As I suggested above, I think you need to get your gran's marriage certificate - we'll help you find the record if you're having bother with it.
Have you assumed the mother's maiden name of Hennessy from possible records are is it a known hard fact?

i manged to find my grandmother mary k rowan , anne and uncle john who shared the same name and had hennessey as their mothers maiden name but i will take your advice and get a birth cert...its something I really want to do for my children as i have only my dad here left and he is limited with info ...thanks for your help

Sharon Marie

Sharon Marie Report 16 Apr 2013 20:59

yes I think so ...so if Jane hennessey married martin as above ..those children above must have been born before my grandmother, ann , vincent and john is that correct? i think my great aunt anne was born first around 1920 ish...

The only Mary K. Rowan I can find was born in 1921 and had mother's maiden name Lydon

Births Sep 1921 (>99%)
Rowan Mary K Lydon Warrington 8c 426

This person had known siblings James, John and Ann.

The parents of above children are probably:-

Marriages Dec 1918 (>99%)
Lydon Florence Rowan Warrington 8c 319
Rowan James Lydon Warrington 8c 319

Do either families look familier?

Hi Sharon, no you're not confusing us at all!

One way to be 100% sure that the information posted is correct is to buy a copy of your gran's marriage certificate and see what information it gives for her father. you can then cross check with the census info found.

You should be able to find her marriage on FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

and you order copy certificates from GRO, they cost £9.25 http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

You now say that your grandmother's maiden name was Rowan, which means that her father's name was Rowan.
You also say her mother's maiden name was Hennessey, so the marriage must be correct.
