Interesting one! However, there was probably an ulterior motive behind the amendment. If she was still married to Mr Whitehead (as it says wife of) then he would inherit her assets as her next of kin, but he needed to get the death registration corrected first.

Back in the late 60s my cousin's partner died and his estranged wife (who he never divorced) took the lot and there was nothing my cousin could do about it. :-|

John's action in changing the d.cert smacks of an ott possessiveness to me - I think she made a smart move in leaving him and taking up with Walter.

Kucinta
I believe that entry to be the very same person then after the surname to have been changed with a declaration by john james

Ronald Report 12 May 2013 23:35

Thanks for the info folks I think it may be the fact that john james made a declaration in 1963 one year after Elizabeth was buried and he was with an Emma that Elizabeth had left him at some stage in her life and moved in with Walter , just guessing but I see no other way of finding out
Thank you for at least looking
Regards
Ronnie :-D

is this the same death indexed under Whitehead?

Slight difference in age from the Oswald registration.

Name: Elizabeth Whitehead
Birth Date: abt 1895
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1962
Age at Death: 67
Registration district: Bury
Inferred County: Lancashire

So Elizabeth was linked with Gertrude's brother Walter, but they never married officially?

Her death was registered as Oswald, but then the Whiteheads stepped in and corrected the record?

Hello Ronald, you're going to have to buy a copy of that death certificate to see what it says about her - I posted the reference above.

You can order from GRO, costs £9.25
