Sally is another variant of Sarah apparently. My mum had an 'Aunt Sal' who was actually Sarah. :-)

Hi Patchem - just reading through all you have found while I have been asleep ;-) :-)

Like you, I too am still wondering why Alex's mum named her father as James on her marriage cert ? Although the address card for Maud Boardman and the other details Alex has do seem to confirm that this IS the correct family.

Alex - could you give us ALL the details from that marriage cert please, - names, ages, occupations, addresses and witnesses etc.

If she didn't get on with her father, perhaps she just decided to name her grandfather instead?? - I would just like to try to 'tie up' this little loose end ;-)

You DO have the correct death for Maude in 1961 Patchem...

Boardman, Maude of Nythfa Mountaibn Lane Penmaenmawr
Carnarvonshire spinster died 15th August 1961 at the General
Hospital Llandudno Carnarvonshire. Probate Manchester 22nd
November to Sidney Clayton Breakwell solicitor.
Effects £11660 12s.

By the way, Nathan's 'little nest egg' which he left in 1931, (£21670 2s. 7d.),
by today's value this would be around 3/4 million !!!

Mum's marriage certificate:

St Andrews church,Cleveleys (registration District=The Fyldes)
12/9/1942 Reginald Pollard Pohlmann,Sergeant RAF, 138 The Green,Saville Park,Halifax. Dad=Henry Edward Pohlmann (piano manufacturer-I have this family tree!)
Mary Owen,Telephonist NFS, 26 St Georges Ave,Cleveleys. Dad=James Owen,Wholesale Fruit Merchant.
Witness: Basil Fuch,Margaret Owen (Mum's Sister) and Margaret Elizabeth Pohlmann (Dad's sister)
Vicar= R.F. Hurst. Entry no. 231

Also I got the entry in Mum's autograph book wrong. There are entries from N.Boardman (a poem) and M Boardman (a poem). The Canadian entry is from a cousin who says he has never seen Mum. Name: Harold H. New Westminster BC, Canada. Entry dated November 21 1928. Also an entry from "Auntie" again from Canada,21/1928. Then there is a more significant entry from a Catherine Owen (a poem). Signed Catherine Owen, Bold. 16/6/1934.

Thanks for the info from the marriage cert Alex.

I think this will have to remain one of life's little mysteries but it is obvious from the info you have that we have found the correct family in the Boardman's.

Just why she put down James as her father instead of William I really do not know!

Do you think she may have been brought up by her grandparents and so looked upon James as more of a 'father figure' ? Maybe she did not want William's name on the cert.? Maybe he was 'known as' James and she didn't know any better?

Are any of her siblings still around to ask?

Anyway, when her birth cert arrives perhaps it might give us a clue, or at least confirm that her father was William.

DO let us know when you receive it.

I'd see if Nathan left a will as well :-)

alex

alex Report 9 May 2013 21:58

Thanks Dea. Will do. As for siblings....Mum's sister and brother stayed in 26 St Georges Ave. all their lives. They did not have kids and both are dead. All possible history was taken by the cleaner as I explained before, she got the house (I tried to get historical items from the cleaner but got nothing-I was so bitter about that). I was close to my Uncle and Aunt but again, I never got to talk about the family. My big regret.

I guess if Nathan left a will, it could have gone to my Grandfather and then there would be details about him? How do i find out if he did leave one?

Still waiting for Mum's birth certificate but did receive a copy of Nathan Boardman's will today. Guess what..he mentions Elizabeth Ann Owen.....but also...his nephew...William!!!!! He is down as William Boardman and this will is dated 1931. That must mean my Grandfather was William Boardman? No reference to Mum or her sister or brother though. He also mentions Hannah Lythgoe (sister?) and Sarah Ann Jones (sister?). Maude was an executor. The estate was passed to Maude (sister) and William Henry (brother?).
I tried to get mum's birth certificate using "James Owen" as her Dad. The results came back "nil". So I have reapplied leaving her Mum and Dad's names blank. Will let you know what comes back.
