I'm trying to find some info for Canadian Mounties, Ive been told that one of my Grandfathers brothers..either Frederick Yates b 1885 (Reading, Berks) or William Yates b 1883 (lechlade, Glos) were mounties. i have a record of them on the 1901 census but after that they have disapeared, I have both their marriage certificates.

Their father was Arthur Yates b 1854 lechlade and my grandfather was Albert Yates b 1894

So he left shortly after his marr.

t wasn't unusual for some family member, usually the head or an elder son, to go out first and get stuff sorted, like a job, accomadation, etc., and then for the rest of the family to follow on later.

There is a Margaret Yates (Line 4), married but no spouse present, lodging in Winnipeg. She works as a domestic cook - her landlord says she immig 1906 - close enough, I'ld say - but I don't know it's Mrs Fred.

Richard mentioned that he had both marriage certificates so it would be helpful if he could give us further info about Margaret, Frederick's wife - her age, her father etc.

Frederick was born 1885, the Margaret on that 1911 census was born c1871 so that's why further info would be useful.

EDIT: Think it's a coincidence. Have found a 1928 marriage for a Frederick Yates, barber, born 1889 Preston England to an Ethel Cheesman, also from Preston, England.

my gt grandmother (sarah yates m to Arthur Yates) did "own" some lodges in Canada somewhere so this may be where margret was lodging.

'inmate'......unlikely to refer to prison...........both sexes are recorded.
