Thank you to everyone who responded.

I understand there were two Albert Victor Ambroses born within a few years of each other. In the absence of any other information about him it is hard to know which one he is (assuming he is one of them).

@Mike could you tell me who's tree the "Bertie" Albert Ambrose came from?

@Dea thanks for pointer re replies - I have been a member for a while but still not that good at using the site.

I am guessing at Anne's birth year as I have no record of her either.

The birth certificate has "Anne Havard Ambrose formerly Pritchard".
My grandfather is listed as working at 43 Park Road, Ilford and his home address is "Little Molrams", Molrams Lane, Great Beddow.

Here's where to look.................

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

There is no evidence of any marriage between Eve's parents

Who registered the birth?

Where on the birth cert does the father's 'workplace' info appear?

What was the place of birth of the child?

Reggie,
Under the bit where it has "Signature, description and residence of informant" the birth cert. has "Albert Victor Ambrose Father" his address as above and the words "as per declaration dated 18th August 1936". The actual registration date was 7 September 1936.

Father's workplace info is under Section 6 "Occupation of father".

Section 1 "When and where born" has "Ilford 130 Maternity Home".

I was thinking that maybe they married outside of the UK or maybe they weren't married at all. I don't know if such things were verified before they were put onto birth certs.
Thank you for your interest and help.

Maybe Albert acknowledged the child as his but wasn't free to marry the mother.

There could be a marriage for him showing on freebmd site prior to this.

It might be interesting to find out through electoral lists who else was registered at his home address.
Perhaps he had other children...

Deaths

AMBROSE Albert Victor Camberwell London 1903 Jul-Aug-Sep VIEW
AMBROSE Albert V Rochford Essex 1967 Oct-Nov-Dec VIEW
AMBROSE Albert Victor Liverpool Lancashire 1978 Jan-Feb-Mar

Birth of the one who died in Camberwell

AMBROSE Bertie Victor Camberwell London 1903 Apr-May-Jun

The one born and died in Liverpool seems also to have married there, so one would assume that the 1967 death is the right one

If people said when registering a child's birth that they were married, no-one would have questioned their assertion

Albert Victor is on the ERs from 1923-1930 with parents Albert & Mary at 151 Mount Pleasant Lane, Stamford Hill. The parents are listed at 44 East Road (abode 151 MP Lane) from 1831 but no AV, by 1837 their abode was Alma, Blenheim Chase, Leigh on Sea.

This marriage looks interesting:

Marriages Mar 1929 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ambrose Albert V Squires Hackney 1b 705
Newman Henry C Sarrasin Hackney 1b 705
Sarrasin Henrietta P Newman Hackney 1b 705
Squires Ethel G Ambrose Hackney 1b 705

Wonder if this is him, so not free to marry.

Frederick A Hare Ambrose Or Squires Jul-Aug-Sep 1941 Hitchin Hertfordshire

If the marriage to Ethel G is him, then she remarried in 1941, under both names Ambrose & Squires.

Ethel G Squires
Spouse Surname: Hare
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1941
Registration District: Hitchin
Inferred County: Hertfordshire
Volume Number: 3a
Page Number: 3585

So either he died or they divorced, but it is too late to find a divorce on Nat Archives

The 1911 census posted earlier in the thread shows the same address as the ERs - 151 Mount Pleasant Lane. If this is the correct family, this is his father's probate record - confirmed from the later address.
