I have no idea whether any of all that has anything to do with the question :-D and I don't know whether this is somewhere in there, but this is likely the Nicholas father of Betty Bimson in the marriage I first posted that was then expanded on:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NX4B-36P
Ann Bimson
christening: 24 August 1783
>> Eccleston (near Croston), Lancashire, England
>> father: Nicholas Bimson
mother: Jane

Mark appears to have lost interest, in any event.

Oh sorry, I missed this:

"Could i ask for assistance in finding relevant dates for William Houghton and his wife Betty Bimson who married 02/05/1803 in Croston. I have Betty's parentage as Nicholas and Mary Unknown ...
Thanks"

I guess that was acknowledgement of the marriage I suggested and the work I did to find it, after Potty suggested the baptism with Betty's father's name ............

"I have Betty's parentage as Nicholas and Mary Unknown ..."

You have that ... from where? why not say the source of information?

I have a Betty Bimson born in Wigan in 1783 with mother Mary Bimson and no father recorded. You can have her too if you do the search at familysearch that I did. I have suspected, since I searched at FS and found that baptism right after Potty posted the details of the baptism naming Betty and her father, that she might be the Betty Bimson in question. Perhaps Nicholas was playing away and the mother wasn't really Bimson; perhaps one of the various reasons why people chose the names they did for fictitious fathers when they married.

It's not like the name was Mary Jones and there might have been a dozen of them born around the same time and place, but perhaps there were two .........

Where have you looked for these relevant dates you seek, Mark?
