Cannot find 1911c

1918 and 1919 census shows he is with Helen ? I have looked on BMD but cannot find another marriage, nor a death of his wife Ellen.

Do you think that Ellen decided to use the name Helen?

Patrick died 1/3/1950 in Brighton, Helen died 27/12/1965 also in Brighton.

While I am on the same family I saw that on the 1937 census Patrick and Helen
living 167 Westmount Road S.E.9 there was also Eleanor Lindsay in same property. Only gives names and address cannot tell if people are related.
Can you help me please?

Also found marriage ELENAOR LINDSAY with ERNEST W SMITH APRIL 1941 Brighton

Thank you
Rose

Rose Report 17 Mar 2014 17:24

Hi Chris Ho, wow thank you, wondered if there would have been something in a newspaper etc. Alexander died 7th Feb 1880,cause of death Exhaustion consequence on severe burns received accidentally. Inquiry 9th Feb 1880. I only know that Alexander was born Northern Ireland but finding him listed was out of my depth. If there is no other Alexander Lindsay listed of the same age and discharged Woolwich, think the details you have given seem a good bet? Buried Kensal Green Cementry seems a bit far, expected him to be buried nearer Woolwich where he lived! His wife Mary was also Irish but I have no idea where she came from bcos the entry on census returns just state Ireland.

Not a nice way to die!!

Have not found Samuel or Mary either, nor Patrick Alexander and family in 1911. Must be someone around if the Coventry marriage of daughter Nellie Maude is correct! Alexander seems to have lost a few years for his death to be registered aged 44 in 1880.

I saw that 1911 and wondered how Alexander could be connected to John or Christina.

I thought perhaps that his father Alexander's first "wife" (I can't find a marriage to Nellie) Nellie...might be the sister of either John or Christina.

However, looking through the census records.....neither John or Christina appear to have a sister called Nellie.

Illustrated Police News
Publication date:Saturday 24 January 1880

SHOCKING OCCURRENCE AT PLUMSTEAD
At Plumstead, on Saturday morning, a man named Alexander Lindsay was preparing to tar a fence at 50, Raglan Road, Plumstead, at half past nine o' clock on Saturday morning and placed a pot containing tar upon the kitchen fire to heat it. Whilst his attention was otherwise engaged, the tar boiled over and ignited, and Lindsay, hoping to save the house from destruction, took the blazing vessel in his hands and carried it out of doors. His hands, face and head were fearfully burnt, and the tar splashing over his clothes, he was aflame from head to foot, until the neighbours came to his assistance and drenched him with water. The burns having been judiciously covered with flour and cotton wool, the unfortunate man was conveyed in a cab to the workhouse infirmary, where he remains in a precarious state. Meanwhile, the fire had entirely destroyed the back portion of the house, and rendered the whole of it untenantable. Lindsay is a labourer in the Royal Gun Factories, and about fifty years of age.

(could relate?)

Chris :)
