Yes Reggie that is the family. Wow I have just discovered this on Ancestry Parish Records

Manchester Cathedral & Parish Church Baptisms - 19th August 1877

Rosanna born 29 Dec 1873 parents Thomas Brindley, boilermaker and Mary Ann
George Henry born 17 Dec 1875 parents Thomas Brindley, boilermaker & Mary Ann
Elizabeth born 4th August 1877 parents Thomas Brindley, boilermaker & Mary Ann

I think now I will check on deaths for the above - except George - to see if he was in fact left an orphan although what would have wiped out a whole family I do not know. I have already tried to find Rosanna on 1881 census but failed.

Hi Dea

Sorry for the delay in answering your query regarding where the Industrial School records are on Findmypast.

If you click on "search all records" then look down the left of the screen under "Special Collections" then click on "The Manchester Collection" and then on the left under "Records in this Collection" you can pick off "Manchester Industrial School Registers 1866 - 1912". Then type in Swinton Industrial School in the "school" section of the search page.

They certainly don't make it easy to find things any more.

Can we find a baptism for John - it might prove a change of employment for his father?

Dea - looks as if you could be right with your 1871 and 1881 census. At first I was doubtful as there was no Elizabeth but I have now found a death for an Elizabeth Brindley reg Sept 1877 - a month after the baptisms. However the baptisms show Rosanna being born 1873 which would have made her 8 on 1881 census, not 6 as stated. And M? on census born 1879 - I suppose mother could have been pregnant with her when Thomas died in 1878. Well I never dreamed that this would even get sorted out. My thanks to everyone who has done their level best to help. Much appreciated.

Thank you Chris !!

Margaret - for all your 'wow's and 'gasps of surprise' on this thread it would seem that you had every bit of this information found for you at the beginning of March yet we have all spent the day re-searching for it !

You really must not start new threads on the same people it is very unfair to those who spend their time and effort thinking they are being of help.

You will find that people will be very reluctant to waste their time trying to help you with your queries in the future.

Dea

P.S. - A 'Thank you' to Kath for the info on how to find the register on FMP.

Sorry you feel your time has been wasted Reggie and the time of others but if you refer to my opening thread I was actually enquring if anyone had access to find my past with a view to being able to look at the records for Swinton Industrial school in an effort to find information as to why George was there alone as I understood the records were on find my past. At no point did I ask anyone to look any further than that although I am grateful for their efforts. This thread was connected to previous research but not a 'family search' as such. It was purely and simply to try and find what information would have been contained on the Swinton records. I had not up until that point discovered the father Thomas' death so that for me was a bonus.
