I have just found on the British newspapers, Kent and Sussex courier 29 Dec 1944, in his obituary that he was a veteran of the Boer war wondering if anything else is said after that? I was wondering how to find any info on him in the military.
Any help would be much appreciated

All it says on Findmypast is:-

Kent and Sussex Courier, 29th December 1944

Ralph (Asher) - on December 23rd at 22 Newlands Road, funeral Friday at the Borough Cemetery.

Doesn't mention the Boer War as far as I can see.

There is also an article about a Court case in 1878 which included evidence from an Asher Ralph, carpenter. Was this his father?

Wow thank you there are two records on the papers, same day and the other one is the obit! Kathleen.
He married a Georgina Kate Smitherman, my Ggrandfather's sister. Yes I do have him with a father Asher. Finding he was in the royal sussex, well keeping it in the family, my dad was in the royal sussex in WW2 and at Cassino!
Thank you for the record, does anyone know where I would find records for the Boer war? as it definitely said in the obit he was a veteran of the Boer war...thanks again all

In the paper mentioned:

BOER WAR VETERAN:- The death has occurred at the age of 73 of Mr Asher Ralph of 22 Newlands Road, who was employed until recently as a carpenter. He was known locally as a veteran of the Boer war.

No other details, sorry.

Dawn Report 29 Jun 2014 10:48

Just found his military records on Findmypast. Sorry I don't know how to copy them to send you - perhaps Richochet knows how.

He was in South Africa during the Boer War. It also includes a copy of his death certificate. There are several pages of records and has a physical description of him.

His full name given on the death certificate is given as John William Enos Asher Ralph.

Cause of death was Carcinoma of Head of Pancreas. His daughter, C. Ralph was the informant.

Also the back of the death certificate says he was a Chelsea Pensioner.

All I can see on ancestry is the list of campaign medals or clasps he was entitled to - I'll PM the image as it tells you which areas he served.
