I am looking to research the berriman family and am looking for Albert Berriman who would have been 23+ & living in wirral in 1947. Had an illigitimate daughter perhaps?

You won't find addresses online for that period

Think too you would need more info about him to identify his birth

Denise Report 27 Jul 2014 17:39

sorry, what do you mean? I wasnt looking for an address I was looking for a relative

Denise Report 27 Jul 2014 18:06

do not know a lot more except he was living with a lady called lillian wno had a son about 5years old

Gins Report 27 Jul 2014 19:21

Hi Denise

How have you got back to him?

Do you have names of other family members?

Rambling Report 27 Jul 2014 19:23

There doesn't seem an obvious birth to match the age you give, but there is an Albert Berriman marriage, W Cheshire in 1950 also one for a Lillian Berriman in 1947 in Wallasey, you can find both on Whether they might be connected to the family you are researching I don't know.

Rambling Report 27 Jul 2014 19:38

There is a birth for 1909 Auckland, with a corresponding death in Cheshire in the 1980s, but if you are sure of his age, that probably eliminates him and possibly also the marriage in 1950.

Denise Report 6 Mar 2019 14:29

I think I have the age wrong as he had served 18years in the army in 1947 so that would probably make his birth 1909 and death 1983. there is a marriage to amy l poppleton in 1950 which bore a daughter jane but need to know if this is my albert berriman.

Denise -
I don't mean to discourage you, but -
you (and we) are only guessing at his age, therefore we don't know for sure that the birth / marriage/ death records people have suggested are actually those of the man you're looking for, although they seem to be in the right area.

But presumably you don't know if he belonged to that area, or if he just happened to be living there around 1947.

If he belonged to that area, there's also this birth, which is more local to the Wirral area than the Auckland one:

GRO Reference: 1902 S Quarter in CHORLTON Volume 08C Page 936

The only things which have NOT been suggested to you by helpers on either thread are the ideas that he was a Sergeant in the W Yorks regiment, and that he had served 18 years by 1947.
Are these definite facts?

You mentioned the birth of Jane Berriman (mms Roscoe) - is that because there's an actual Jane Berriman linked to the man you're looking for?

You also mentioned the possibility of an illegitimate daughter. Unfortunately her birth would probably have been registered under her mother's maiden surname.

ArgyllGran Report 17 Mar 2019 17:24

This would be the 1902 Albert:

However, he hadn't been in the army for 18 years by 1947. He's a hardware & drapery Shopkeeper in 1939 .
From that point of view, the 1909 Albert who married Amy is a better proposition, as he's not with Amy in 1939, so possibly was in the Army.]

Have sent Denise a PM asking her to look at both threads.
