1911 census states that Caroline has been married for 20yrs - 2 children, both living. Also states that she is a Lunatic (4) not known (I presume that means that they did not know for how long she has been a lunatic) Don't know what the number 4 means but could be the severity of her Lunacy. There are others with other numbers noted - 4, 6,7 and 8.

Hi,
I am just wondering how you search for people who have been put into Sanatorium/Asylums. The reason I ask is that I am trying to trace my great great grandmother, Caroline Whitehouse. Born 1854c coven Heath Wolverhampton, occupation was general servant. Married Henry Dabbs 1889 Cannock and had a daughter the next year, Ethel Ann Dabbs B1890. When Ethel was 10 there was no record of Caroline living with them. I did find a reference to her in Cannock Asylum but have no idea when she was put there or if she ever came out again.
After talking recently to a relative she did confirm that Caroline had indeed been put in some sort of Asylum soon after the birth of her daughter because of post Natal depression but did not know if she had ever come out again.
I would be so grateful if anyone could help as its such a sad yet fascinating part of my history, especially as all the females in my family have had traumatic births and Post natal depression.
Thanks in advance,
kind regards,
Sarah Adams nee Capewell
