He's been bugging me for a while.
According to the London, England, School Admissions and Discharges, 1840-1911, his dob was 17 Feb 1896 when he was living with his family in Plumstead.

They later moved to Belvedere, Kent.

From details supplied by a Probate Research company, he had 3 children, the eldest being Mary Amelia Taylor.

Using the dob, there is this entry on the 1939 Register, which seems to 'fit'.

Taylor Household (3 People) 9 Lower Newport Road , Aldershot M.B., Hampshire, England

First name(s) Last name(s) DOB Sex Occupation Marital status Schedule Schedule Sub Number
Albert Taylor 17 Feb 1896 Male Metal Turner Engineer Married 72 1
Mary Taylor 31 Jul 1902 Female Unpaid Domestic Married 72 2
Daniel Murphy (Markwick) 15 May 1914 Male General Labourer Single 72 5
(Daniel Murphy did not have a name change - transcription error)

Mary A hasn't been transcribed but is on the image as being born 1 Feb 1925. The name she died under was Markwick with the name change notation dated 13 Jul 1959.

Can anyone work out what Albert's presumed wife's maiden name was and when/where they married?
Also any details for Mary A 1925? Born where? Married who?

The other children named on the Probate research were Albert Maurice and Eileen Joan. They could still be living.

Thank you

Thanks - I've since found the same marriage, and Mary Amelia'd Probate entry in 2014.

Although there's a possible ER entry for Albert Maurice in the Aldershot area, finding a birth seemed impossible.

If Albert Taylor stayed on in the Army in WW1 (no definate proof he even served!) its possible he was posted to Ireland.

The Mary A Taylor on freeBMD is

Births Jun 1925 (>99%)
Taylor Mary A Banwell Clutton 5c 676.

However, I couldn't see a suitable parental marriage or births for her younger siblings :-S

Thanks for the interpretation of the S/Sgt. Mine was that he was in the Reserves. With such a common name, it was impossible to say for sure if he had a WW1 medal card. I'd picked up on the Metal Turner which is the same as or related to all the other Taylor's occupations in the family. That lot were Millwrights, Turners etc.

Yes, the 1911 is correct.

Since his father was Joel, the suggested MC in Barnet might prove one way or the other if Mary was nee Murphy.
FreeBmd doesn't show the births of either of the younger siblings with mmn Murphy to 1939 & there is one closed record on the 1939 which might be one of them.

Another Irish birth?

Just had a quick look at the record for Mary Amelia Taylor's passenger card which alviegal posted yestarday.

The initial search brought up another record for someone of the same name. Married, travelling with a Herbert Taylor b 1915 destination address in Blackpool. That's a shame.

Thanks Dee

Although I'm not following the Markwicks prior to Maurice's marriage to Mary Amelia, a couple of trees on Ancestry suggest he could be Maurice's father, or related in some other way.

I have to go out now but will have a look tomorrow- but the Murphy marriage is possible if Mary was born in Ireland. Eileen born 1945 mmn Murphy. Possible marriage to Woodcock and death in 1997 Leicester.

Or do you have the ages of Mary's siblings?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 26 Nov 2017 08:06

Working on the presumption that Mary was a Murphy, and looking at the Daniel Murphy in the household-

Daniel was born 15th August 1914 (Transcription of 1939 says May- but original is August)

I think this is his death:

Name: Daniel Joseph Murphy
Death Age: 69
Birth Date: 15 Aug 1914
Registration Date: Jul 1984
Registration district: North east Hampshire
Inferred County: Hampshire
Volume: 20 Page: 341
------------------------

Daniel was born in Cork:

Name DANIEL JOSEPH MURPHY
Date of Birth 15 August 1914
Group Registration ID 1145598
SR District/Reg Area Cork
Sex Male
Father: Maurice Murphy (Chief Stoker RN)
Mother: Annie Murphy- formerly Howard
Address: 10 Harbour View.
--------------------------------------

And this is Mary's birth (matching birth date on 1939 register)- confirming she was a Murphy (Daniel was her Brother)

Name MARY MURPHY
Date of Birth 31 July 1902
Group Registration ID 7167348
SR District/Reg Area Cork
Sex Female
Father: Maurice Murphy- Stoker RN
Mother: Annie Murphy- formerly Howard
Address: 2 East Hill
---------------------------------

So the 1924 marriage posted by Catherine looks to be correct.
