sorry not replied before now
after my late husband died my son found a case in loft but never opened it he as now and there was a few birth,marriage and death certs in it and photos mostly on Denny side of family
have found a lot on Catherine Denny
found Thomas Carey parents they were Michael Carey and Margaret Higgins
but that is all

Thomas worked as a builder mostly on churches and the Mersey tunnel

got his birth from another member have been in touch with a grand daughter of Thomas but had no reply yet
no Idea of his occupation
but I do know he died after is wife as he helped bring up my late husband as his father died when he was 3 years old

To progress any further back on the Carey side I think you need to buy Thomas and Catherine's marriage certificate to get the details for Thomas.

When you get it, come back and post the details and we may be able to identify him in 1939 and census records with his parents.

If you're sure Catherine / Kate Denny was your mother-in-law's Mum, then you should buy the Carey / Denny marriage certificate. That will give Thomas's age, occupation and his father's name (if known) and occupation. It may then be possible to find the correct Carey family on census records.

Can't see Thomas and Catherine on the 1939 register at the moment. Do you know when and where they died please?
