My mum thinks he may have been based around Manchester in 1939 possibly if that makes any difference?

The only Harry Shaw 1921 is this one, but seems to be a different family

Shaw Household (7 People) 11 Loaris?h Road , Liverpool C.B., Lancashire, England

First name(s) Last name(s) DOB Sex Occupation Marital status Schedule Schedule Sub Number

Henry S Shaw 04 Oct 1897 Male Motor Driver Married 282 1
Ada Shaw 22 Jun 1895 Female Unpaid House Duties Married 282 2

Stanley Shaw 16 May 1935 Male Under School Age Single 282 10

The 1939 Register was a working document until 1991 & formed the basis of the NHS. If someone was still living after then, or was less than 100 years old in 2015 with no matching DC, then the record would be closed.

Thank you so much Dea. Its Harry Shaw born June 1921 West Derby, Liverpool so he would have been 18ish. He was in the Merchant Navy but not sure if he already was in 1939. Same siblings as Harriet and Isabella. Many thanks x

Just to point out that you can do a free search of the 1939 census, but it will only give you basic details

http://search.findmypast.co.uk/search-world-records/1939-register

Dea

Dea Report 22 Mar 2017 20:57

It appears to be the same address as William & Harriet - i.e. 20 Boswell St., Liverpool.

Dea x

P.S. - Yes, you have to have a paid subscription to FMP site to view the 1939 census but if you would like to post Harry's details on here we could take a look for you.

Solar Report 22 Mar 2017 20:37

Does it give the address on that census for Isabella? Thank u

Solar

Solar Report 22 Mar 2017 20:27

Ignore the ?
Do you have to have a paid subscription to view the 1939 census as I would love yo also try and find my actual grandfather Harry Shaw on this too?

Solar

Solar Report 22 Mar 2017 20:24

Yep that is definitely Isabella's correct marriage as my mum can remember aunty Bella and uncle Van
?

Dea

Dea Report 22 Mar 2017 20:20

If this was her marriage then there is a very good chance that the Harriet who married Mr. Guther is the one you are looking for as Isabella is living with the Guthers in 1939 (even though she is classed as in a seperate household within that address:

Marriages Sep 1945 (>99%)

Shaw Isabella Van De Merwe Liverpool N. 8b 1243
Van De Merwe Johannes L Shaw Liverpool N. 8b 1243

Do you know Isabella's date of birth or who she married please?

Solar

Solar Report 22 Mar 2017 20:04

Yes there was a sister called Isabella born in 1922. Other siblings are Edith May Shaw 1902, William H 1906, Frederick J 1908, Edward 1911, Ann O 1913, Robert 1916, Thomas 1918, Harry 1921 and Arthur 1926

There is a Thompson family in the household listed above him and note that in the household below is an Isabella who seems to have started life as a Shaw.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 22 Mar 2017 19:40

There's this entry, but the transcription doesn't make sense

Guther (Thompson) Household (2 People) 20 Boswell Street , Liverpool C.B., Lancashire, England

First name(s) Last name(s) DOB Sex Occupation Marital status Schedule Schedule Sub Number

William Guther (Thompson) 02 Jul 1906 Male Contractor Labourer Married 11 1
Harriet Guther 22 Jul 1904 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 11 2

Thompson is not associated with William Guther or any other name on the page
Harriet Guther is not shown on the image.
There are 3 closed entries after William's.

Interested in the 1976 one. I was working from when my grandad died in 1984. I was told it was only a few years before but maybe not

Solar

Solar Report 22 Mar 2017 19:01

Ah thank u. I really didn't realise there was now an accessible 1939 census now. Will try and look now ?

patchem

patchem Report 22 Mar 2017 18:54

If you find Harriet still unmarried living with siblings/parents on the 1939 census, it will give you a date to work from for any marriage.

patchem

patchem Report 22 Mar 2017 18:52

There is this marriage:
Marriages Mar 1931
Guther William Shaw W.Derby 8b 616
Shaw Harriet Guther W.Derby 8b 616

and death
Harriet Guther
BIRTH: 28 May 1904
DEATH: Dec 1976 - Liverpool, Merseyside, England

which could fit in with her birth
Births Sep 1904
Shaw Harriet W.Derby 8b 472

but a little before the early 1980's.
