Helen -
You asked if there was any family listed with Frank and Iola on the ER.

No - but that doesn't necessarily mean they didn't have any family.
If Frank was born 1899 and Iola in 1906 (per the ages given in the 1950 travel record), then they were 66 and 59 by 1965.
Any children could have left home by then.

Having said that, I can't see any births of children for them, from what's available with a Worldwide (or whatever they call it) sub on ancestry.ca

And please remember, we don't know if this is your Frank or not.

So Frank & Iola (note Iola not Lola) were on the UK incoming passenger list Sept.1952 and out going Oct.1952. Had they perhaps returned for a family funeral?

Unfortunately Canadian incoming passenger lists don't go up to 1952. I actually emigrated to Canada as a child in 1952. I'm on the UK outgoing passenger list but there's no incoming Canadian list.

On the 1963 voter's list Frank is a trucker and Iola a lab tech. In 1965 he's a carpenter and she's a lab tech.

Hi Argyllgran gran , sounds like the voters list you found for Frank Grieve and Lola Clark Grieve might be him , too similar, farmer etc, never said if any family in that voting list did it? Thanks a lot

Further to mgnv's post above:

The groom in the1934 marriage to Agnes is not your Frank, but we don't know if the Frank married to Iola is yours or not.

Confirming AG's guess that it's not your Frank:

The woman's name is Iola, not Lola.

I don't know if her husband is "your" Frank or not.
Can't find a marriage for them.

Can't find deaths for either of them.

As already posted, they were in Wellington, Ontario in 1965.
Ontario deaths more recent than 1937 are not available online.

So Munro , Ontario ,great what you have found out, wondered when he died? You mentioned a Frank Grieve and a Lola Grieve, is that him too ?

Helen

Helen Report 23 Jul 2017 13:41

By what you have found should have said

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 23 Jul 2017 13:38

If that is indeed your man, Helen, I don't believe that he remained in Montreal, he just disembarked there but was heading to Munro, Ontario.

Also latest Canadian census is 1921 so not much help.

Helen

Helen Report 23 Jul 2017 13:25

Thanks argyllgran, Margaretm,so he maybe went to Canada, but what you have found, wonder if married to this Lola? How to I get into death records for Canada, Montreal / Quebec?
How do I get into Canadian census ? Thanks very helpful

Frank Grieve of Kilrenny returned to Canada in 1930, leaving Greenock on 10 May, heading for Quebec on Duchess of Atholl. [EDIT: 23/7/17 - Just noticed you've already posted this, MargaretM.]

Sorry, using my tablet and haven't got the hang of copying and pasting on it!

EDIT:
Also from Greenock to Montreal in 1950, farmer Frank Grieve 1899, East Gilston Mains, Leven, Fife. With wife (?) Iola, 44. Arrived Liverpool in Sept, left Oct.

Wife is Iola Clark Grieve.

Per voters lists, Iola (lab tech) and Frank (carpenter) in Wellington, Ontario in 1965.

Don't know if this is the right Frank or not. No middle initial, so maybe not.

That looks good, MargaretM.

I don,t see a marriage or death for him in Scotland.

There's a 1934 marriage between a Frank R Grieve and an Agnes Gilligan in Manchester, but that's probably Frank Robertson Grieve, born Chorlton 1908.

MargaretM Report 22 Jul 2017 21:11

Is this him returning to Scotland? H's heading to Kilrenny, Anstruther, Fife. Says last permanent residence was USA.

That's what we've been looking for, Helen, but not finding anything after 1923, I'm afraid.

We've posted the earlier records just because they came up while we were searching, and in case they gave us any clues.

Hi , think I have got his fathers date wrong , David grieve 1867 should have said, and brother David 1893 , thanks for all the information,
I know the address he went to , stayed at John Brown 319 E.86 th Street, years ago I wrote a letter to that address , a long shot I know, got no where ?
The Canadian census in 1925 don't think that's him ,says Canadian , he was Scottish, only went there in 1923 on SS Columbia
Looked on Ellis Island got information on him arriving
Wonder how I could find out if he married? Had any family , death certificate, my family and I will maybe get someone who does genealogy to help us, unless all you helpful people can find out more , thanks again Helen
