24/03/1945 was the start date of Operation Varsity, part of the Rhineland Offensive.

You might be able to order a death certificate from the GRO. You will have to register but it's free to do so. Then follow the "place an order" section and then ? use the Archive reference ARR2 when they ask for the GRO reference - or ring and check 0300 123 1837
