Robert Report 27 Dec 2017 13:06

Please help if you can. The above gentleman is my maternal grandfather. He died in Ashchurch near Tewkesbury, Glos. in 1940( Jan-Mar) aged 65. Because of his known age at death I assume he was born approx. 1874-75.
I have found him living with his grandparents Isaac and Sarah Huggins in Winterbourne,Glos. in the 1881 and 1891 census aged 6 and 16 respectively. In these two census records he is shown as being born in Birmingham.
He married Louisa Field at Bishops Cleeve, Glos. in 1903 while he was a serving soldier and his first child Elsie was born in Lucknow, India when he was a NCO in the Glosters. I just cannot find a record of his birth so cannot confirm who his parents were either.
Can anyone help please?.
Thanks in advance
Robert Fitz

Where does the middle name George come from? Not seeing a death- did you make a mistake with his middle name?.

Is this him in 1939 with middle name James?

Malyon- I think that's confusing things. Robert already said that Albert is with his Grandparents in 1881:

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 27 Dec 2017 15:27

Don't think it's that birth- it doesn't fit with the October date on the 1939 register.

It's confusing as there is another Isaac/ Sarah Huggins family. Our Isaac was born Frampton Cotterell, the other at Hankerton, Wiltshire.

However, I'm not seeing a son Frederick (a blacksmith) to the Isaac (born Frampton Cotterll) and Sarah living in Winterbourne.

Robert, have you followed all the other children of Isaac and Sarah?

There are Army Service records for him on FMP, lots of pages which I need to go through again, as they are mixed up. Service No. 3358

His birth town is listed as Frenchay, Gloucestershire. Born c1873 as listed as aged 32 on discharge in 1905.

When you get to the last page he initially gives his NOK as his Mother Elizabeth Huggins, address not known, when he attested in 1891.

The NOK is late altered to "Wife with husband" as she was allowed on strength with him. This was presumably after a period of leave for the marriage as he is listed as in India from Feb.1897- Dec.1905

He is shown as marrying Louisa Charlotte Field at Bishops Cleeve, Gloucester 22.8.1903, witnesses Lancelot Chess and Florence Nellie Field.

Elsie Louisa's birth in Lucknow is recorded as 22.12.04
