Sherry Report 8 Oct 2018 20:49

Hi Eileen

I am the granddaughter of the Terrence Michael Titus who was born in Ingersoll, Ontario in 1919 and who died in 1994. We found out at a family Thanksgiving dinner last night that my grandfather had been previously married in England during the war. My aunt was going through some old papers that she had found, and she shared that info with us last night. I found your thread when I googled his first wife’s name in addition to his and the year they were married. One of his papers had her address in East Grinstead, Sussex.

My grandparents had 7 children, six of whom are still living. Grampa never talked about the war years, and my dad, uncles and aunt had no idea that they had two older half-siblings. My dad is the second eldest, and he turns 70 this year.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Sherry

I do agree Joonie , re - personal details, but felt it relevant for gathering the right info and not following false trails - it's a sort of 'need to know'. Of course, now things are getting a little too sensitive I think!

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 12 Jan 2018 02:58

Eileen, you wouldn't be able to find a marriage record in Ontario, as they are not publicly available for that period.

It's possible that he obtained a divorce in Ontario, claiming he didn't know where she was in order to serve her, for instance. He might have had to prove grounds.

I don't imagine the Eilene who married Terrance was the Toronto one. Too much distance and difference. And Norma Wilson would have been a not uncommon name.

I'm getting a little leery of the personal details being posted here, incuding of people who may not be directly related, and perhaps even more so of people who are, if Terrance did have kids. Some of it might want to be deleted once it's all sorted.

I'm going to see what I might come up with for Eileen and Val this weekend and will report back.

Eileen

Eileen Report 11 Jan 2018 20:02

MargaretM - so far there's no sign of another marriage record in Canada. (Also, not sure, but there may be other Eilene's in her family with same spelling ).... could be a can of worms ?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 11 Jan 2018 17:44

I wondered if that was the case, Eileen. I'm sure it happened more than once. Perhaps he never married Eilene who spelled her name wrong knowing that it would be illegal.

Eileen

Eileen Report 11 Jan 2018 17:35

Have now discovered that Terrance and Constance Titus never divorced!

Eileen

Eileen Report 10 Jan 2018 10:41

Thank you Argyll ... I'm not too fussed about Norma Eilene Wilson's info as not Val's blood family - but very keen on the Titus side of things , but of course I will save this info too. I can't thank you enough for your generous time !

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 9 Jan 2018 22:58

John & Elizabeth Wilson from that 1928 travel record are on the 1921 census, at the address John was at in 1928.
He was a store-keeper, per both the 1921 census and the 1928 street directory.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 9 Jan 2018 22:51

There was at least one other Norma Wilson about the same age in Toronto.
There's a 1945 university yearbook entry for one, who was a dental nurse.

[Record deleted from here, as maybe still alive.]

Could be the same person, of course - just because the one who married Terrence was a cook in 1972 doesn't mean she couldn't have been a dental nurse when younger!

Eileen

Eileen Report 9 Jan 2018 20:18

That must be her Argyll because her maiden name was Wilson (on the gravestone). Again - thank you so much ....

I'm doing a little looking around for Eileen behind the scenes, especially with what ArgyllGran has found here, so if you will give me a day or two, I'll see what I come up with for her. Sorry to be cryptic, but I may have a line on a connection and shouldn't really put details here.
