Elizabeth Report 19 Jan 2018 15:00

I have finally managed to sit down and have a look at this again.

Is there a way to see a baptism/ birth for

William and Adam to see if they were brothers..ie had the same parents?

Thank you

Elizabeth

OOPs Sylvia you are so right! I wonder if this Peter may be Adam's brother, both sons of Adam.

In any case, just ignore this Elizabeth as it is getting further away from your original question. I will edit my posting.

Thanks again Sylvia :-D

Alviegal ..............

I've just spotted this, it CAN'T be right!

f this is Peter's marriage he has his father as Adam. Adam in 1841 is described as an engineer.

Marriage: 12 May 1844 St Luke (formerly St Wilfrid), Farnworth (Widnes), Lancashire, England
Peter Houghton - (X), full age, Engineer, Bachelor, Whiston
Elizabeth Baldwin - of full age, Spinster, Whiston
Groom's Father: Adam Houghton, Labourer
Bride's Father: Zachariah Baldwin, Office clerk
Witness: Elizabeth Houghton, (X); Hugh Lucas
Married by Banns by: JD Latiward, curate
Register: Marriages 1837 - 1845, Page 210, Entry 419
Source: LDS Film 1655236

But Peter was born 1837ish and William died 1839 so possibly he felt he was closer to Adam?

- - - - -

Peter cannot marry in 1844 if he was born around 1837!

You would have to buy Ellen's birth certificate to see who was named as father ......

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 17 Jan 2018 22:20

Am now thinking

Elizabeth married William had Peter

Later married William's brother Adam and had Margaret

Is it possible to find out if William or Adam was Ellen's Dad

Do you think this is correct?

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 17 Jan 2018 21:37

Oh thankyou re Ellen details

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 17 Jan 2018 21:37

Thankyou again.
Yes I did notice about Joseph.

I would say the mother was probably Ellen.
Adam and Elizabeth had an Ellen who i think probably died as she didn't appear on the 1851 census.

Elizabeth then had an Ellen again when she was married to John Swift

Lancs bmd show that Adam and Elizabeth married at St Michael, Huyton

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1841

HOUGHTON Adam FORSHAW Elizabeth Huyton, St.Michael Prescot C2/1/86

The marriage certificate should show whether she was claiming to be a widow or spinster

Margaret's marriage.

Marriage: 3 Jan 1859 St Mary the Virgin, Prescot, Lancashire, England
John Johnson - 21, Blacksmith, bachelor, Whiston
Margaret Houghton - (X), 17, spinster, Whiston
Groom's Father: Matthew Johnson, Labourer
Bride's Father: Adam Houghton, Labourer
Witness: Peter Topping, (X); Mary Forshaw, (X)
Married by Banns by: Francis L Horsham
Register: Marriages 1854 - 1860, Page 191, Entry 381
Source: LDS Film 1657597 item 2

EDIT Please ignore both these marriages as they appear to be an earlier generation. Peter would not have marriad at 7 years old!!!

The problem with the 1841 is that it does NOT give the relationships between people in the same household

I wonder if that 1841 is accurate in saying that Adam was between 15 and 21, and that he was NOT Elizabeth's husband but her brother-in-law???

ie were he and William brothers?

NOTE:- ages of people over the age of 15 on the 1841 were rounded DOWN to the nearest 5, so Adam could have been as old as 19.
