In case it is relevant and following on from the marriage that AustenQ found, here's May in 1939 but no Frederick. If he had already enlisted, he wouldn't appear on the register or maybe they just weren't living together by then.

I believe Edwin had been previously married

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 4 Feb 2018 12:46

The 1911 says they've had 6 children- one has died.

Perhaps they thought they had to list the 6 children, but in fact Edwin had died?

Just to confirm Nyx's post:

I also tried to find a marriage for Edwin and Francis, with a complete lack of success, and also have queries over Frederick's parents.

Also, where was son Edwin from 1911 on 1901 census?

Rambling

Rambling Report 4 Feb 2018 12:08

Following on from Austin's post

Edwin and Francis were together in 1901,

1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census
12, Mansion Street, Camberwell, London & Surrey, England

Edwin E Day Head Married Male 33 1868 Faversham, Kent, England Groom
Francis Day Wife Married Female 25 1876 Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland, England -
Frederick Day Son - Male 6 1895 Westminster, Middlesex, England

The 1911 census says that they have been married for 16 years. But I cannot find a marriage for them?

So if that Frederick is correct he may have been born to Francis but before she was with Edwin, or may be his child from a previous relationship as he is a bit older than Francis?

Gerry

Gerry Report 4 Feb 2018 11:36

Thank you Austin for bringing it all together.

And I am very drawn to Nyx's suggestion

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 4 Feb 2018 10:18

I think Gerry is having difficulties as the person born in 1941 is still living and he's trying not to give too many details.

I'll try and fill a few gaps- The child was born/ registered in Watford (hospital)

The usual address for parents was given as Wembley.

Checking the 1939 register for that address- Edwin and Frances (and their married daughter Eva)- shown here on the 1911, were living there.

1911 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription

---------------------------------

The children have mother's maiden name Scott. Annoyingly, I don't see a registration for the son Frederick.
-------------------------------------

Assuming his middle name was Benjamin, there is this possible marriage in 1918 (If he was already married this could have been the reason he didn't marry Florence)

rst name(s) FREDERICK B
Last name DAY
Marriage quarter 4
Marriage year 1918
Spouse: May E Salisbury
District Lambeth
County London
Volume 1D Page number 680

(You would need the marriage certificate to confirm that he was the Frederick connected to Edwin and Frances)

They appear on the electoral registers together living in Camberwell, and then Battersea. (until 1930). May is sometimes listed as May Emily Elizabeth

There are these possible deaths for them:

First name(s) FREDERICK BENJAMIN
Last name DAY
Gender Male
Birth day 11 Oct 1894
Death quarter 4
Death year 1982
District Chatham
County Kent
Volume 16 Page 0636

First name(s) MAY EMILY E
Last name DAY
Gender Female
Birth day 10 Sept 1897
Death quarter 2
Death year 1973
District Lambeth
County London
Volume 5D Page 457
---------------------------------------------------

I think the details for Florence, posted by Nyx above, look a good possibility.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 4 Feb 2018 09:19

Have you checked electoral lists for the address of birth and address of parent(s)?

These won't be available for the war years, but might help link Florence May to a family.

Who was the informant of birth?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 3 Feb 2018 21:22

Long shot;

Frederick Day
in the UK, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960
Name: Frederick Day
Birth Date: abt 1906
Age: 33
Port of Departure: Brisbane, Australia
Arrival Date: 17 Feb 1939
Port of Arrival: London, England
Ship Name: Narkunda
Shipping line: Peninsula and Orient Steam Navigation Company Ltd
Official Number: 142496

His name's scored through, so presumably he didn't travel - but he was due to embark at Bombay, he was a soldier, and his proposed address in the UK was
R A Depot, Woolwich

If Frederick was in the Royal Artilliery in 1941 his army records will still be with the MOD.

Have a look here to see how to apply for them:-

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/request-records-of-deceased-service-personnel

They cost £30 and take several months to arrive. You have to be able to prove your relationship.
