That sounds more like it as she appears in this one place and then vanishes. Thank you.
I couldn’t find Mary in 1861 census which is what threw me a bit

That’s great. Thank you.

Glyn Report 27 Aug 2018 16:27

Also you were all great going back another generation to Thomas Blackey and Hannah Sutton and their children. I’ve found many Thomas Blackey’s ( common name!!) but I can’t get further back than him and Hannah.
Can anyone help go further back please?
Thanks again

Another confusing thing I’ve found relating to previous information about Thomas Blackey. I looked up the Family search site as suggested and found Land Tax Assessments for Thomas Blackey for 1784, 1786, 1789 and 1791.
I’m not really sure what these are, but I assumed they were rent for land and a house.
I had Thomas death as 1786 but if he’s being taxed for land etc ( he’s a farmer) then is this posthumous charges or can anyone find another da The for his death as I’ve searched in vain.
Can’t find a date of death for his wife Hannah either!
Thank you

Help needed with this missing link.....
I think as the rest of the census information is on this post, I will carry on from here so everyone can see the information I have to date.
William Blackey, brother to Hannah (1806/7-?), Mary (1810/1813-?), and Sarah, now Sarah Simpson, widowed, (1815-?), emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1854.
It seems he made a number of journeys back to U.K. I have found a voyage 1872 from Victoria to Liverpool. Also 1888/9 coming from London to NSW, Sydney.
It is possible he made other trips back as well.

Can anyone find other trips he made?
Or help me trace what happened to Hannah, last mentioned on the 1851 census as far as I’ve discovered, Mary, on 1851,1861,and 1871 census living with Sarah, and at Birkenhead.
I wondered if the journeys William made to U.K. coincided with deaths or family matters relating to the 3 sisters.
Finally how would I go about finding out if they owned these properties rather than renting?

It’s a big ask I know to get information on all of this, but I’ve drawn a blank, and I know how helpful and resourceful you all are.
Thanks a lot
Glyn :-)

Which Hannah in 1851 do you mean?
Hannah 1807 or Hannah 1846?

Re Hannah 1846 -

her probable birth:
BLACKEY, HANNAH mms DIMILOW
GRO Reference: 1845 D Quarter in WEST DERBY Volume 20 Page 1026

so she's presumably a daughter of a son of Thomas 1766

ArgyllGran Report 4 Sep 2020 14:07

Re Hannah 1807 (actually born 1806, but census suggests 1807) -

???
Hannah Blackey
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1837-1915
Name: Hannah Blackey
Registration Year: 1852
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration District: West Derby
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 686
Records on Page:
Name
Hannah Blackey <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Margaret Conoly
John Deegan
John Thompson <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Ancestry also suggests this as a possibility:

Hannah Blackey
in the New Zealand, Marriage Index, 1840-1937
Name: Hannah Blackey
Marriage Year: 1862
Marriage Place: New Zealand
Folio Number: 62/273

Unfortunately there are lots of Hannah Blackey ‘s in the family. It’s Williams sister Hannah, 1806, that I’m trying to find out about, along with her sisters Mary 1810 and Sarah 1815. The other Hannah 1846 is Williams daughter, and she did marry in New Zealand.
It’s the 3 sisters life, and how many times William came back from NZ to either see them or settle their affairs, that I’m interested in, but can’t get any further than the information I’ve already mentioned
Thanks ArgyllGran

Not CofE - were they RC? Or Non-conformist?

Glyn

Glyn Report 9 Sep 2020 09:30

I don’t know for sure but non Conformist church on occasion. Maybe the husband was. Thanks Erika and Argyll Gran for that. So Hannah married and died in the same year. Very sad. That was before William went to NZ.
That leaves Sarah who may also have died, and then Mary.
And the mystery of why William made 2 or more journeys back to U.K.
THANKS

In 1881 the Hetheringtons were fairly close neighbours of Mary and Sarah.

Mary and Sarah at 68 Mersey Road, and the Hetheringtons at 9 Lilly Street.

These streets don't seem to exist today, but on the census form Mersey Road is the next one after Lilly Street .
Working through the form, there's 9, 7, 5, 3, and 1 Lilly Street, then 70 and 68 Mersey Road.

If the 1852 death is your Hannah, the 1852 marriage can’t be.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 9 Sep 2020 15:49

From a geographical point of view, the marriage seems more likely than the death.

So far, I can't see Hannah and John in later censuses.

Just noticed that you already knew Mary's history, Glyn.

In 2018 you wrote:

So Thomas Blackey 1766-1854 had a daughter called Mary Blackey.
She never married. I’ve found her on the 1851 and 1871 and 1881 censuses. She was born Dec 1810 and died 1890 in Birkenhead.
