You not only need to register, but need to pay a sub to see all the details - monthly £8.95 or annual £48.95.
BEWARE that subs renew automatically unless you cancel.

However, with basic free registration, it says her Service Number was 2112758, record year: 1942, unit: RAF.

With that info, you could send for a copy of her RAF record. You'd also need to send a copy of her death cert. with your application - -

https://tinyurl.com/gph5frz

It costs £30, and will take a couple of months or so to arrive

Dea Report 12 Mar 2018 16:49

From my personal experience I found that the War Forces Records site was a total rip off - I once paid for a month's membership and found that there was no more detail on any of the records I looked at than was freely given as basic name and number type details on many other sites.

There were many other people who commented that they had found exactly the same.

Thanks for the warning, Dea.
I've never bothered with more than the basic registration.
I don't like the way the site implies that free registration is all you need.
It's only once you've registered, and are expecting to see the records, that you find you're not really any further forward until you pay up!

And not even then, from what you say!

AKayeLibrarian Report 9 Apr 2018 15:16

Well, I received the death certificate. Unfortunately her address was a care home. And the informant had the same address, so someone from there rather than a relative.

Although I'm no further forward with learning what happened to her in the intervening years between 1948 and her death, the marriage certificate I ordered was very useful for researching her ancestors on her father's side. Her mother is as elusive as her!

I'll look into the possible third marriage next.

Thanks all

Thanks ErikaH. I'm struggling with her mother because on her marriage certificate her father is Luke and her date of birth would be about 1884. The only Elizabeth I can find in the censuses with a father called Luke in that area has a birth date that is very wide of the mark. Unless she lies about her age on the marriage certificate to make herself seem much older? Her husband is in his 30s on the marriage certificate so perhaps she didn't want to seem too young for him? Not sure. It's also possible she wasn't living with her father in 1891, another reason it would be tricky to find her. Any advice much appreciated.

Does the marriage cert give Luke's occupation.

And who were the witnesses?

I assume this is the Elizabeth you have found?

What is her address on the marriage certificate? And father's occupation.

Are there any clues gained from the witnesses of the marriage:

Thanks Argyll Gran. That means I can forget about Elizabeth Jane then.

The two witnesses were as follows:

R Hindmarsh
John L Longlass

I believe R Hindmarsh is her husband's step or half brother who he is living with in the previous census. I haven't searched for Longlass.

Luke's occupation is a collier - lots of them around in the north east. It's all I know about him.

Both William and Elizabeth have the same address so were already living together so not sure this will be helpful information. They were living at 36 Tyne Street, where my grandmother is eventually born.

Thanks both, for taking the time to respond and help me out.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 10 Apr 2018 17:10

No record anywhere of John L Longlass

36 Tyne st - where, please?

Giving the same address when marrying didn't necessarily mean living together - it was often a ruse to avoid paying for more than one set of Banns
