Sorry in the delay in thanking all you great people once again, work commitments I'm afraid. I am now in the process of putting all your (and other) info together and will see what I am missing. I will post up separate enquiries of names I need more info on so will bring this tread to an end. once again thanks for all your help.

Birth years on censuses are calculated from the stated age, which depends on when the census was taken. So look at the AGE

1841 rounded down ages of over 15’s to the nearest 5

Try looking for info yourself about possible deaths on SP website

And take note of the fact that there are two distinct locations of posted births/baptisms, and of the two marriages I found. Every scrap of info must be considered and evaluated. Especially the DATES - and the mother's forename

Roy Report 24 Jul 2018 08:28

Thanks for all that info erikaH, but it has really got me confused.
1 There are two Agnus's one born 1813 and one born 1820, I am presuming that the first one must have died.
2 I also see there are two Davids one born 1807 and the other 1810-, again I presume the first died.
3 It seems that David and Jean had there family over a long period starting 1807 and lasting untill 1824
4 It seems strange that you have Jean as being born 1824 but the 1841 and 1851 census has her born 1826 and the 1861 & 71 census has her born 1825. Still I presume you can not put too much reliability on census dates as they were only as good as the person telling and the person writting.
Still I now have more info than I did have so that is great, more the merrier.

Thanks for all your help in helping me trace my wifes White family history. I now feel I have enough information to be able to see certicates on scotish peaple web site If anyone come accross any info on David White 1784/6 and his wife let me know. I have info from 1841, 1851 & 1861 census on David but really have little about his children, James , Jean and William. I do have information on Thomas Who is my wife direct decendant. So if any one knows anything about the others I would be most greatfull

MI for Anna Catanach Beattie/ White's parents.

1857 Erected by DAVID BEATTIE blacksmith in memory of his daughter AGNES MITCHEL who died 1st August 1856 aged 12 years and 9 months Also two infant daughters are intered here And of his wife MARGARET NICOL, who died 12th. June 1859 in the 40th year of her age. The said DAVID BEATTIE died at Shrewsbury 30th. July 1862 aged 46 years.

I think this would be David Beattie's parents which explains Anna's middle name.

Erected by JAMES BEATTIE in memory of his wife ANN CATANACH who died 22nd Augt 185(3) aged 68 years. And also of their following family, viz. GEORGE who died in June 1817 aged 3½ years. The said JAMES BEATTIE died ... 1857 in the ... year of his age.

I don't see him in censuses after 1871.

According to SP, there were no Andrew White deaths anywhere in Scotland between 1871 and 1909 (surprising!).
From 1909 onwards, there are several who would be the right age, but none in Angus or Forfar, so can't guess if any of them might be him.

Also no marriages, apart from an Andrew B White in 1882 in St Clement, Dundee. The place is possible, but he didn't have a middle name at birth.

Perhaps your Andrew emigrated.

EDIT:

Just a possibility - a death with different spelling. Monikie is in Angus:

I thought this all sounded familiar! We've found lots on this family before https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1366552

We were following James White then and found his parents Thomas and Elizabeth Nicol and followed their lines.

EDIT Roy has said that he has most of the information about David's birth family. This is just to let helpers know that a lot has already been found on these families :-D

Gee thanks for all your help, I have just about got all the details of David and Annies family sorted out. Onr thing I am finding strange is that I have not been able to find where David was for the 1861 census, he would have only been 15 or so . Also do any of you know where I can find any information on Cemetaerys or gravesites in Islington so I can find out where any of this family are buried. Obviously since niether James or Agnes White got married that is the end of the line for David and Annie.

So now I go onto Davids Brother Andrew White, born 5/7/1852 in Dun, Forfarshire. Anyone keen to help a poor kiwi out???
