I didn't find the info, it was from the quote on page 1 from Christina S

In the 1841 and 1851 censuses, Thomas Whitehead born 1820 in Monks Horton, was in Maidstone prison for theft.

Yes!

Celia Jane Whitehead was born to Eliza in 1866, father recorded as Thomas Whitehead. Eliza was still married to Thomas Whitehead at this time so named him as the father. Thomas Whitehead was in prison in 1841 and still there in 1851. Eliza entered the workhouse in 1857 but by 1871 Eliza and Celia were living with William Cloke, so Celia's biological father could have been either Thomas Whitehead, William Cloke or ? . It's possible that when Celia married she named her father as William (referring to her step-father) and the surname was automatically recorded as Whitehead. .

Edit:

1871 census:

Celia Cloke

ChristinaS Report 1 Sep 2017 17:25

Hi, I'm late with joining this thread. Started at the beginning so I'm going back to Celia Whitehead.

On 27th August, Andrew posted the 1871 census for Celia with parents William and Eliza Choke.

In the 1841 and 1851 censuses, Thomas Whitehead born 1820 in Monks Horton, was in Maidstone prison for theft.

In 1857 Eliza Whitehead and her children: James 13; Egerton 9 and William 6 entered St.Martin's workhouse.

So I thought it more likely that Celia's father was William Choke rather than Thomas.

Hi Christina - thanks for your thoughts

I think I may then have a wrong birth certificate - the marriage certificate that I have I know is correct and this does confirm her fathers name as William

The only thing is I could only find one birth for a Celia Whitehead?

Thanks

ChristinaS
ChristinaS Report 2 Sep 2017 17:09

You probably have the correct birth certificate. Thomas Whitehead would likely have been named as the father as Celia's mother was still married to him.

The marriage certificate shows that Thomas was born in 1820, with a father James.

There's a Thomas Whitehead born 1820 in Monks Horton with father James. This one fits the Thomas Whitehead who was in Maidstone prison.

You say her parents were Eliza and Thomas.

But the marriage record posted by DetEcTive on the other thread ( 13 Aug 2017 @ 14:07) says her father was William.

I don't see a Whitehead/Marted (or variation) marriage.

The marriage record copied again here for ease:
