Thanks ErikaH, that looks very promising indeed - Thanks for finding it!! It shows she was single and a Nurse.

Shirley, what you say makes sense. I will endeavour to contact her brother if I can find him.......

Thanks all for your help......

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 4 Sep 2018 06:56

The incoming record for Dorothea say the intended country to live is England so seems she came home for at least some time

Can't see her leaving again but then online travel only goes to 1960

Her brother would be the best bet ,he would or may know his sisters movements after she came home

If she went back to South Africa and passed there then unless her death was recorded at the Bristish consulate it won't show on online records

They were in bridport in 1939 and there's a marriage in 1952 that could be him

His wife is a Pamela and they are on the electoral rolls to 2018 still in Bridport

Try btonline phonebook to see if you can pick them up

Edit D R Smlth is on the btonline records with the same adress in Bridport as electoral rolls ,, and theres a tel nos

I would be inclined to get the mums death cert to see who the informant was

Could be either of their children who could possibly still be alive

Am going to a funeral tomorrow for a relation who was born in 1926 so some can live to a good age

If Dorothea did go to South Africa and passed there then her 1939 record would still be closed

As an example my elder brother is a closed record because he lived and died in Spain in 2001 . My elder sister died in 2002 in the uk and her record is open

did you find her brother

Marcus

Marcus Report 1 Sep 2018 20:41

Malyon, I don't know what to believe now! Obviously too young to have a child in 1938,and besides, it looks like she was still in England in 1939 Register with parents & brother that Shirley mentioned earlier.

She must be there somewhere!

So not Salford then !!!

This make things a bit more exciting doesn't it ?

So, looks like she emigrated (?) and married a Dutchman. Her middle name of Susanna seems to fit as well.

What's more exciting - she has a son!

How would I know if she ever returned to UK or did she die out in SA?

Marcus

Marcus Report 1 Sep 2018 19:15

Don't know her middle name other than it starts with 'S'.

Kathleen, have just seen your message. Will get birth cert at some point. As for 1939 entry, that certainly looks promising..!!!

So, between 1939 she is in Manchester, and her death in 1987 in Salford, not too far from Manchester, it looks like she stayed in the area.
