Kelzi Report 19 Sep 2018 18:52

I'm looking for a marriage in Northern Ireland, probably in the Belfast area(?) between 1928 & 1937 for the above fellow to persons unknown(unfortunately). He was born in 1912.The next I know of him is in Barrow-in-Furness in 1937 where he has a daughter to Margaret Jane Robinson-Mary Josephine Maguire. The couple were together for 37 years before marrying in 1974 in Barrow-in-Furness.I have their marriage certificate which states that both parties previous marriages were dissolved ? I cannot find any record for either party having married before in England (that fits in).
I can't find Margaret Jane on the 1939 register in Barrow-in-Furness,(she was born in 1905 in Kilkeel,Northern Ireland),but,as she had a child born in 1937 (Mary Josephine Maguire) & another in 1939 (William Patrick Maguire),both in Barrow-in-Furness, I'd assume she was there ? I've found Joseph at 15,Silverdale Street in Barrow-in-Furness on the 1939 register-he's married, but on his own? I checked Electoral Rolls in Barrow-in-Furness today, but couldn't find them prior to WW2 at Silverdale Street, but found them in 1945 in Franklin Street,Barrow-in-Furness.(Another daughter-Elizabeth C is born in 1945)
One of them, either Joseph or Margaret Jane is said to have had a daughter born in Northern Ireland in the early 1930s prior to coming to England. That daughter is said to have been called Francis.
Any help much appreciated.

I've seen that record Kath, but can't seem to fit it in with anything.Marriage cerificate doesn't name previous spouses.

Is it possible that Margaret J. Robinson had a sister called Sarah?

I know it's a long shot but there is this marriage in Lancashire:-

First name(s) Joseph
Last name Maguire
Marriage quarter 2
Marriage year 1935
Registration month -

MarriageFinder ™

Joseph Maguire married one of these people

Sarah E Robinson

Spouse's last name Robinson
District Burnley
District number -
County Lancashire
Country England
Volume 8E
Volume as transcribed 8E
Page number 427
Record set England & Wales Marriages 1837-2005
Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records

I know of a few people who married one sister, only to end up living with another.

It could be a completely different couple but just thought it worth mentioning.

Does the marriage certificate for Joseph and Margaret not give the names of their previous spouses?

Kelzi Report 17 Sep 2018 18:19

Just got the marriage certificate for Joseph Maguire & Margaret Jane Robinson,1974 in Barrow-in-Furness.It says-with reference to her, that her previous marriage was dissolved.I know now that she was married in 1952 to John Wilkes in Barrow-in-Furness & they had children, but,it also says that Josephs previous marriage was dissolved too ?? No one in the family has any knowledge of this? He's on the 1939 register in Silverdale Street,Barrow,on his own,but married?- - - but who to? Was he married in Ireland before coming over to Barrow? (I can't find a definite record).Did he marry elsewhere? (Again.I can't find a definite record) He had children with Margaret Jane Robinson from 1937 (at least) through to 1945,but I'm told they never married until 1974.His father is given as James Daley (deceased) on marriage record.

I'm not surprised-I am too, lol.Their surnames were Daley /Daly.His mother-Emma (Emily) married James Daley/Daly in 1914 in Antrim area Northern Ireland.I'm not positive, but think all the children were born in that area.

If Joseph had brothers/sisters and he was a Maguire what was their surname....and where were they born...?

MANY THANKS for all your help everyone.
LOADS of new info through today.Discovered that the Margaret named as Josephs wife,is indeed the lady named above, born in 1905 in Ireland (Kilkeel). She's said to have had a brother-Leslie,who married a Helen. They had children-Robert,Leslie & Violet.
The 'Harry' mentioned as a possible brother to Joseph is incorrect. It was relatives on the Robinson side that the family visited c2000.Possibly Shore Road ?

Checked at local library, the James Daly(Daley) mentioned above at 10,Franklin Street is correct- - - Joseph,Margaret(Daisy) & the family lived at 18,Franklin Street, later moving to Exmouth Street not far away.

Discovered that Joseph had brothers & sisters:-
Samuel,Lily,William,Michael & George (Daley) who lived in the Grammarscroft area of Millom, also a possible step sister-Frances?

I can't link any Harry/ Henry Maguire/ Daly/ Daley into this family at the moment.

Emily Mary and James Daley had a son Patrick in 1916. On the birth James is described as a private in the army. Patrick died in April 1917 and is listed as the son of a soldier. I don't have access to FMP, but wondered if James army record was on there (clutching at straws- but wanted to know if there was reference to Joseph or other children).

James Daley died in Barrow in 1953:

England & Wales, National Probate Calendar
DALEY James of 10 Franklin Street Barrow-in-Furness Lancashire died 18 April 1953 Administration Manchester to Emily Mary Daley widow. Effects #450
----------------------

Are you sure Harry/ Henry's surname was Maguire?- Could Harry have been related to Margaret/ Daisy rather than Joseph?

I got the information re Josephs brother-'Harry' off his grandaughter Susan & her husband who went to visit 'Harry' in Ballynahinch c2008-2010,so he must of been a good age? In his 90s ?Josephs son-William also confirmed this.He also told us he remembers living in Silverdale Street,Barrow-in-Furness when he was a child.I do not know what happened to Joseph between his birth in 1912 up until he surfaced in Barrow-in-Furness in 1937 as father to Mary Josephine. Then on the 1939 register & then as father to William P.I'm also now been told that their mother-'Daisy' had already been married & had children,& that Joseph & 'Daisy' had,at least, one other child too? She was only 2-3 year old when she died (ran over in a car accident).

Erin- I agree, something doesn't seem right.

Kelzi- you said the birth below was for Joseph's son- what was the address on the certificate? Was it Silverdale Street?

Births Mar 1939 (>99%)
Maguire William P Robinson Barrow F. 8e 914
--------------------------------

You also mention a brother to Joseph- Hugh or Harry- but if Emily had married then the brother would be surname Daly/ Daley.

In your opening post you said that Joseph was said to have had a brother form the Ballynahinch area of Ireland- who gave you this information?

I'll be back in a while

I cannot but think something is not right ….

Cecilia died Sept.01 (same address and Francis died 1904 in the infirmary...)
Son William is still at same address 1911 but under Magurie….(mispelling.)

If the birth for Joseph Maguire b Belfast (mother Emma) is indeed the correct "Emma" eg daughter to Michael and Georgina then sometime after the 1911 Census she became pregnant ended up having her child in BUW returned to Ballynahinch area and married in 1914...and what happened to Joseph..???

Kelzi Report 12 Sep 2018 11:01

Joseph, born 1912,appears first in the info I've gathered after his birth,as father to Mary Josephine born 1937 in Barrow-in-Furness.I have this certificate.Next he appears on the 1939 register at 15,Silverdale Street,Barrow-in-Furness.Then in 1939 also he's named on the birth certificate of William Patrick. This information is100% correct.I may be wrong, but it appears the family were originally from Ballynahinch area, came over to Barrow-in-Furness late 1880s-when Barrow was a 'boomtown' with the shipyard & steel industry, before returning to Northern Ireland around 10 years later.I'd have a guess that Joseph-& possibly a sibling, maybe Hugh (?)-who I think is possibly the 'Harry' we're looking for (?) came to Barrow-in-Furness for work as both industries 'kicked off' again in the mid-late 1930s.I've found a Hugh Maguire in the 1939 register in Marsh Street,Barrow-in-Furness,but it doesn't seem to be correct?
Once again, your help is much appreciated with piecing everything together,CHEERS.
