Let's not be too harsh - I had a nice thank you from the poster with the following message:

Hello there,

Thank you for all the information you forwarded to me about William. Will have a look through all the links you have mentioned.

I belie he got married in 1938 but cannot find out what happened to him after then.

Thanks for your help.

Looks like 'our Prickles' has now found his demise - posted above.

Not 'harsh' - merely perplexed.

That's what I meant really ErikaH xxx - just wanted you to know that she had responded. My choice of words was not quite what I meant.

At least everyone now knows that the OP has seen the info, which is excellent.

Thank you to everyone who forwarded me information with regards to my search for William Benbow Ashton. The information has been vey helpful. Still trying to fill in some gaps from 1938 to when he died which I believe was in Nottingham.

Kind regards to all.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 24 Oct 2018 13:48

He was in Cheshire in 1939 as has been posted above, and his death was certainly in Nottingham - again as posted above.

Electoral Rolls are probably the only source of info, but you'd need addresses to start searching through them in the relevant local libraries

His last address will be on his death cert.................

What happened to his wife?

Her birth
Births Mar 1920 (>99%)
McAleny Margaret V Barlow Birkenhead 8a 1112

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 24 Oct 2018 17:23

An Ashton/McAleny daughter was born in Basford reg district in 1944, so a) Margaret was still around at that time; and b) they were living in Nottinghamshire.

That child's birth is also registered as Concannon / McAleny.
Married a Mills in Basford in 1967.
A Mills / Concannon child was born in Birkenhead in 1968.

His parents were on Nottinghamshire ER in 2004, and his father probably died in Mansfield reg district in 2007..

EDIT:

Margaret had remarried in Basford in 1942.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 24 Oct 2018 18:20

Margaret V Concannon is on Nottinghamshire ER in 2015, per 192.com

She died in 2016:

CONCANNON Margaret Veronica Of Old Chapel Close, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, passed away on 17th August 2016, aged 96. Funeral service on Wednesday 7th September 2016, St Josephs Roman Catholic Church, Sutton in Ashfield, at 1pm, followed by burial at Kingsway Cemetery.

I suspect the OP knows this already, and is really only interested in William.

Have only just returned to Genes Reunited and found several messages with regards to my search for William Benbow Ashton. I am still missing some information on William as to his whereabouts from 1939 when he was living on the Wirral and when he came to Nottingham after the war as far as I know he joined the army in 1939.

Some of your research is correct just a couple of things are not quite right.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 1 Jul 2020 16:32

If he was in the forces, his records will cost you £30.00 and take many months to arrive

If he and his wife had children, get copy certs for info about his occupation.

If some of the info is 'not quite right' that's because people don't have your 'inside knowledge' and post what they find in the hope that it will prove helpful.

It's up to you to sort out which is relevant and which isn't

Have you taken the excellent advice about getting a copy of his death cert?
