I found these two baptisms for an Elizabeth or Eliza in Stowmarket. In census 1851 Elizabeth is aged 40, but in 1841, she was born c1815, though this may have been rounded down to the nearest 5 years, as was meant to happen for adults in the 1841 census.

The parents appear to be the same for both baptisms, but did both children survive to adulthood?

EDIT: Looks like they did. Marriage for Eliza further down the thread, so I believe Elizabeth bap 1809 is Maria's mother.

There was that death for Elizabeth Good aged 45 in 1856, so I'm inclined to think Elizabeth 1809 is the right baptism, and Eliza 1817 is a younger sister. I have come across adult sisters called Elizabeth and Eliza before:

A tree on Ancestry (Beware, not always accurate) says that Rebecca Warner and Edward Chinery married in Beaulieu on 9th June 1807 - by Licence

The date and location would fit with all the rest of the info posted, so it may well be true

The same tree lists her parents as John (1741-1823) and Elizabeth (1743-1803)

John is recorded as having died in Bath, Somerset

You asked how to decide between two deaths for Maria Chinery nee Goode.

Note that the age is approx correct, and she is buried at Woolpit, where your Maria resided in the 1871 census. The fact that you didn't find her in the census after 1871, also adds weight to this theory.

If you want to be absolutely certain, then buy a pdf of the death cert from the GRO, it should reference her as the widow of Edwin/Edward Chinery if it is the right one.

Thanks guys. Working through this. I have ordered the 1879 death certificate/PDF for Maria. I guess the obvious question I have is if Edward/Edwin’s father is Edward why on their marriage certificate does he list his dad as pattle Chinery. It’s a very bad copy but defiantly not Edward. If you are able to find it I put a copy on my tree in Ancestry. I couldn’t find a pattle Chinery. It’s a mystery and strange.

If Christine's 1817 baptism is correct ( and it doesn't include a date of birth so we don't know if he was born as late as 1817, which doesn't tally well with age in censuses):

Then it looks like Edwin was illegitimate.

He may have either completely made up a father's name etc to save face, or he may have substituted the name of a relative like a grandfather, or even used elements of his birth father's name, if it was known to him.

Can't find your tree on Anc to check the image for inspiration.
EDIT: Found it, definitely reads as Pattle, or at a pinch Pattie. The later just might be a diminutive of Patrick, but am really reaching and no baptism to match.
