Thank you ArgyllGran and Chris Ho, all that ties in with what I have, nice to have the burial.

Regards the baptism, Isaac was a twin, the other boy was named Abram (although Abram is on record as William)

With reference to alviegal's post last year on 9th January 2019 at 21-59

1891 census shows the family Lewis and Eleanor Jones at 21 Morton Terrace.

With a lot of help from GR and a lot of digging myself, I finally managed to find that my 2x Great Grandfather Lewis Jones died on 31 July 1891 at 21 Morton Terrace.

I managed to confirm his first wife was Ruth Evans. I have the marriage certificate.

I have never been able to find a record of Lewis's birth, or baptism (which is my outstanding query.

I thought that if a tried looking at their children Mary Ann (mmn Evans) Catherine (mmn Humphreys), and Jane (mmn Humphreys) it might help. I found all 3 of these baptism records, but I cant find one for Eunice, Eunice was born 1886 at Clydach Vale, Glamorgan. 1st qtr. 11a page 616 Pontypridd, Glamorgan, she died in 1924.

I have looked at FMP, Ancestry and Family search, and I cant see one, maybe she just wasnt baptised.

I would be really very grateful if you could have a quick look for me, but dont spend too much of your valuable time on it because I am just clutching at straws now, my real aim is to find Lewis's baptism or firm birth date, and because I keep hitting a brick wall, I thought maybe a different line would help.

His birth just may not have been registered as he was born at the beginning of bmd registration

Deborah Report 2 Jan 2020 18:27

To the best of my knowledge, he was born 1839, going by the census's and the death cert states date of death 31 Jul 1891, aged 52.

But as we know, you cant go by census's.

I know I am probably not going to get a firm date of birth for Lewis Jones, I have got 3 cousins also searching for him, and we are not getting anywhere, but would it be possible for you to have a quick look for me for a possible baptism record for Eunice, I have the other 3 sisters birth certificates, and baptism records, and I will order Eunice's birth certificate if necessary, just to complete my records. I have searched under Eunice and Unice, and for her Mother Eleanor Humphreys I have also searched for Elenour and Ellen, as she was sometimes known.
As the other 3 sisters were baptised I thought she may be to.

Eunice is the Great Aunt of my cousin and her sister Catherine was my Great Grandmother. We are trying to work this out together.

Could you kindly have a quick look for Eunice/Unice's baptism records for me please.
B 1886 Clydach Vale. Glamorgan.

Father Lewis Jones, Mother Elenour/Eleanor/Ellen Humphreys (she used all those christian names over the time)

Thank you in advance.

I know this thread regarding my Great Grandfather Lewis Jones (1839 Llancynfelin) has been going on for a while, but I think I have now found a sister for him. A Margaret Jones, baptised 4 Nov 1840, at Llancynfelyn, Cardigan, Wales. Same place Lewis was born. Parents are stated as John and Elizabeth Jones, same as Lewis's.

John Jones was a Hatter.

I found this entry on Ancestry, film number 105175 and was hoping to see it on FMP so I could maybe view the actual record but I cannott see it on there. Ancestry do not provide an image.

Could you please have a quick look to see if you can find an image for me, somewhere

Thats the one, thank you Maddie.

I am hoping it will lead me to her Brother Lewis Jones, my GG Grandfather, whose baptism I just cant find anywhere, and just now I found a possible baptism record for a Lewis Jones 15th April 1938 stating Lewis as the illegitimate son of Enoch Lewis and Elizabeth, Enoch is a shoemaker, the address is also Treddole. I just don't know where to go from here.

Thank you for finding it for me, much appreciated.

I know he was married to Eleanor Humphreys, and Ruth Evans before that, I have both marriage certificates, but its his birth record and first marriage that I just cant prove. Its been the biggest brick wall I have ever had.

Interesting you should find that one, because I was just searching for all the siblings of John and Elizabeth Jones, and what came up for Lewis Jones (if he is the one) was Lewis Jones, baptised 15th April 1838, illegitimate son of Enoch Lewis Shoemaker, and Elizabeth Jones, and Elizabeth's abode is Trerddole.

Am beginning to wonder if he is one and the same, and that maybe that is why I could to find him.

All the other siblings parents are stated as John and Elizabeth Jones of Trerddole, with John as a Hatter, expect for John Jnr. 1836, cant find him yet.

Deborah

Deborah Report 10 Jan 2020 14:19

Possibly took both surnames to make it Lewis Jones. If he was illegitimate.

Its only a theory.

Maddie

Maddie Report 10 Jan 2020 14:41

haven't found an ench on the cen maybe just coincidencesus as a shoemaker but found one with wife mary as a hatter, maybe just a coincidence

Deborah

Deborah Report 10 Jan 2020 14:48

When I first started looking I thought the occupation of Hatter was rare, but from browsing the census's it is quite a common occupation.

The 2nd one looks interesting, I maybe should consider ordering the certificate.

In fact they both look interesting.

Thank you Maddie.
