No, unfortunately it isn't, having checked the GRO site

GOODE, ROBERT 50
GRO Reference: 1863 S Quarter in STOW Volume 04A Page 355

So - no help there.

Hi Susan,

Have you traced the children to see if George pops up at their addresses in 1871?

EDIT: 1871 - Elizabeth (Betsy) appears to be living in Woodbridge Road, St Margaret, Ipswich, Suffolk, England. Working as a Servant.

Susan Report 23 Jan 2019 15:49

I have briefly looked and no obvious sign of him. Just working through them in more depth.

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 23 Jan 2019 16:07

OK, first significant issue i see is, i cannot immediately 'see' a birth for Mary Ann Goode?

Was the family name Goode, or Good?

Have you checked all records for errors, for possible mis-transcriptions?

I would be tracing all the children and following them through the years to see if George pops up!

Hi, up until now bar probable transcription errors on census with interchangeable Goode and Good (probably due the the person writing the document) the official records have been Goode. However I started to look at their children in more detail starting with Isaac and he would appear to be using both Goode and Good from what I can see. I went through the GRO with surname Goode and Good looking for MMN Rush and it would appear they only register their first child as Goode and the rest as Good. Although I haven’t seen any official documents to double check I have the right people. Hope this makes sense.

You searched the GRO with a MMN of Rush, but you have above that George's wife was named Elizabeth Stannard?

Am i missing something?

EDIT: i have found Elizabeth's GRO index, with a mother's maiden name of Stannard.

George - 1847
Elizabeth - 1849

Betsy married -

Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration district: Ipswich

But no sign of George with them in 1881, 1901 or 1911.
Haven't found them in 1891.

WayneTracey - Sarah Rush would appear to be the wife of Isaac. Isaac is the first child (I have found) of George and Elizabeth. You asked me about the children and about the possibility of surnames being Goode and Good. Isaac is the first child I have looked at in more detail and the first time I have had lots of confusion with the surname being both Goode and Good. Hope this makes sense in the context of your questions. Fingers crossed.

YES! - That makes sense. :-D

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 23 Jan 2019 16:45

And the same goes for Maria, in 1871 - ie - Her father's not with her.
Sadly she died in 1879, and her husband in 1876.
Their children are all living together in 1881, but still no sign of George 1810.

I can't see them after 1881, so far.

EDIT:

Oh yes, I see Maria and Edwin/Edward's son George in later censuses. He was born Goode, then listed as Chinery in 1881, then reverts to Good(e).

But no sign of "old" George with him or his family.

Hi,

I have George as this is my direct line up to the missing George Goode. Maria's George is defiantly illegitimate with no dad listed on the birth certificate. Maria's George married Florence Lambert in 1884 and is in Bradford in 1891 onwards and dies 1919.

Maria's other children -
Jane I havent found after 1881 either
William - I havent found after 1881 either but I have briefly just looked at my hints on him on ancestry and it appears he might still be in Suffolk married to a Sarah but need to double check this birth date appears to be a couple of years later
Alfred - (you might not have him) he dies age 1
Julia- same nothing after 1881
Alice - I havent looked at yet
The second Alfred dies 1883

Its a while since I looked at these so might revisit.

I looked at Deaths on GRO between 1861 and 1871 and it would appear there are only 2 of about the right age. Could these be possibilities? I cannot find any connection to the locations though
George Goode Age 56 Died 1867 Greenwich
George Goode Age 57 Died 1869 Manchester
