There is mention in newspaper articles that , following Nathaniel's death, his wife contested his will saying that he was of unsound mind and feeble when he made it. - His 2 sisters who he had been living with had shared his estate between them.

I will look further ...............

One of the articles mentions that they were married in 1872 so the marriage you found is probably the correct one.

Apparently he had been suffering from mental illness since around 1879 and at one time was in an asylum but his wife brought him out to look after him at home.

At times he was violent to her and to his son and she did separate from him from time to time when things got particularly bad but went back to him and stayed with him until he died (that's what the articles say anyway.).

There are quite a few articles about this.

His original will left his wife and son provided for and separate amounts to each of his sisters. While he was staying with his sisters he changed his will and they took everything.

After a court case the original will was brought back into effect and the money divided as it was previously indicated.

With his 2 sisters from the 1881 census, Margaret and Mary. Grandparents John and Isabella, all in lair A240.
