That means that the Tom and Mary (Matthews) are a different couple to The one i have found on the census. Si I need to find the correct family on the census.

I think we might be getting it sorted.

thank you

Just to be clear...........

Do you mean that you have tracked back directly to James GRAY and Anne and now want to investigate their son Tom John.?

or is Tom John your direct ancestor?

Thanks for helping me

So do you think that the census and the marriage are two different families?

I do believe the marriage between Tom and Mary Matthews is correct. The family were living in the right area at time of marriage and his dads occupation is correct.. This Holmes name is what has thrown me.

All hthe best

James Gray and Anne E Pickersgill are my line.

Tom John is there son

greyghost Report 12 Apr 2019 11:31

Also, Mary Ann Gray in 1911 is shown as 4 years younger than John Tom. The marriage you've posted shows Mary as 3 years older.

If John Tom was born 1874, then he wouldn't have been 21 in 1893 and he only aged 4 years between then and the 1891 census.

Perhaps a little bit of adjustment to suit getting married and fitting with an older/younger bride.

Thanks for helping me.

I think Mary Matthews must have died and then he married Mary Ann Holmes. But I can't find a marriage for Mary Ann Holmes.

The marriage shows Mary Ann's father as William Mathews, so is this the correct marriage

Who is your definite relative who you are working back from?
