Birthplaces aren't recorded on 1939 register. No way of knowing which - if any - of the records is his

Who did he marry?

If he died after 1969, the DOB will be on the record

Jane

Jane Report 12 Apr 2019 17:02

No Idea

I was just going through the deaths and found two so I was just trying to see if I could work out which one is mine.:

He possibly died in 1975 sept if he was born on 01/02/1901 and died in Portsmouth

if he was born 31/03/1901 Then he died in N Dorset in 1979

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 12 Apr 2019 17:05

His father's Probate (1936) was to the widow.

Frederick was two months old on 1901 census

If he'd been born 31/03/1901 his birth would have been registered in AMJ qtr

Jane

Jane Report 12 Apr 2019 17:16

So according to Freebmd he was born in the Mar quarter which must mean he was born on 1/02//1901 and died in Portsmouth. Which means he was probably in the Navy,

If this is my relative it will be such a shame because I live near to Portsmouth,

Sorry, no, it doesn't necessarily follow that the Portsmouth death is for the one born in Doncaster.

There is no 'must' about anything until you have documentation

Did he marry ?

If so ,and his wife was still alive in 1939 they may show together on the register

Jane

Jane Report 13 Apr 2019 08:16

Thanks for helping me but I do not know if he married. In fact I don't know anything about him yet.

All the best

The 1901 census was taken 31 March. He wouldn't be listed as 2 months old if he was born that day so likely he's the one born Feb. 1st.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 13 Apr 2019 10:47

But Margaret he could have been 2 months and x amount of days too

Really the answer is to get his birth cert

A PDF copy is the cheapest way

Jane

Jane Report 13 Apr 2019 11:20

Thanks ladies. Ye i thinki will order the pdf copy. What information do you get on this.

ArgyllGran Report 13 Apr 2019 11:44

It's exactly the same as a "proper" full-price copy, except that it can't be used for legal purposes.
It's an image of the same document.

It'll tell you his father's name, if known.

You say you don't know anything about him.
But how did you come across him? He must be linked somehow to someone else whom you do know about - you haven't plucked him from thin air.

Oh, I see, this is the one you're talking about, so you know his father's name, so the birth cert will confirm if that's the correct birth;

Thanks ArgyllGran.

I take it you can order them from the GRO site? I had a quick look on there but could not see how to do it. I only looked at the first page of the order form so maybe you get the choice later on .

Thanks for helping me

A tree on Ancestry says this is his marriage:

Marriages Sep 1921 (>99%)
Gray Frederick J Saunders Lambeth 1d 716
Saunders Elsie Gray Lambeth 1d 716

BUT it's wrong, because the marriage cert (shown in the tree) says that man's father was James, and was a plater.

ArgyllGran Report 13 Apr 2019 12:11

Yes, order from the GRO site - you choose the option on the second page of the order form - the page where you put in the person's name and the reference numbers. The option is near the bottom of the "Service Options" section.

Thank you very much for that information. If this is my Frederick Gray and it looks likely its him then he is moving around the country a bit. I wonder where his wife is, if she is not living at this address?

All the best

Jane.
