John is last name - bar an empty line - at the bottom of a right hand page and then Esther and Edmund are top 2 of a left hand page.

Piece and book are the same. Folio and Page are different.

I wonder if they are actually at the same house but somehow recorded wrongly. However it is a fairly common name I would have thought.

Not this poor man was it!...

Chris :)

04 January 1848 - Liverpool Mercury - Liverpool, Lancashire, England

On Friday, Thomas Jones, of Riley's gardens, Tithebarn-street, fell from the fourth story of Mr. Harboard's warehouse. Prince's Dock, and, besides bruising his head, severely injured his hip.

Edits (5, Rileys Gardens, Liverpool 1851, is a Thomas Jones (Mariner), with a John and Elizabeth Jones)

Thanks Chris - there are so many Jones named William/John/Elizabeth

That is my family in 1851 - trying to trace what happened to William (who was there in 1861 & 71 but living with in-laws in Kirkdale in 1851)

I suspect John & Thomas were related

Thank you.

Yes it is my William. Elizabeth I am fairly certain is mis-transcribed as I am sure she was Williams wife by then. She died between 1853 & 1858 when William then married her sister Martha (took me a long time to sort that one!)

I have everything on him except 1881 and as the family lived at Ryleys Gardens for at least 20 years I thought it was worth a try to see who was there in 1841 & 1881

thanks Malyon but I have everything on Martha & William except where William was in 1881. Martha died in 1874 - always living in Liverpool from birth to death

Chris - on that 1851 census you found for John Jones age 60 at 5 Ryleys Gardens can you interpret where in Wales he was born - I can't decipher it. It is definitely my family

Llanddulas seems reasonable as he was a mariner - thanks Dea

thanks Chris. That was also the suggestion from another site. I do have have FMP so had not seen their transcription.

They must have moved out of Ryleys Garden possibly after Elizabeth died in 1878. I have her grave photo where she is buried with her grandchildren in Kirkby.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 20 Aug 2019 11:59

You say you have everything on William except 1881.
I assume that means you've found him in 1891 - where was he then, please?

Can you copy/paste the 1891 census for him - again, there are lots of William Joneses born 1830-34 in Liverpool.
Most of them are married.
None of them is a cooper or related occupation.

Dea

Dea Report 20 Aug 2019 12:07

I did see the 'Llanidloes Montgomeryshire' on the 1851 transcription but if you look on the actual image this does not actually appear on there so I don't know where the transcriber got it from ???
