Yes, there are baptisms for the boys - I see Fred's now that I know he was Alfred, not Frederick! - but no birth records.

Ellen

Ellen Report 28 Aug 2019 02:41

Jessie is William Jessie born 3/1/1868 Bapt 9/5/ 1868 at Crewkerne
Fred is Alfred born 1873 Bapt 22/8/1873 (why do they not put their full name of these census forms makes it easier for us ) :-0

No, can't see her birth record - but there's also no birth record for her brothers Jesse c1869 (William Jesse at baptism) or Fred c1885 - and also no baptism for Fred, as far as I can see.
Also no birth for Alfred 1875-79.

So she's not a one-off anomaly in the family.

I printed off a copy of the passenger list & it has her as Emily ( looks like J )Tucker aged 29 years

Thank you for Emmie Tucker on the 1891 Census. it does sound promising being a cook possibly helped get her on the ship to Australia in 1901 thank you also for that passenger list
I tried looking for a birth in 1867 after seeing the Baptism 6/9/1867 but could not find a Emma Jane with a mother Barrett/Symonds
This site has the best researchers :-)

Dea Report 24 Aug 2019 18:07

Brilliant AG - we knew it must be Emma but by finding that 1891 it adds some real 'weight' to the theory - you can see the beginnings of the transition..................

If she was calling herself Emmie, I can see how that could easily become Amy.

About 7 years older than Amy claimed to be .

But if she changed her name from plain Emma Jane to more exotic Amy Jeune, then I dare say chopping off a few years of age is also feasible!

Have you read all through the 'Thread', what are your thoughts on below Baptism?...

(age might be out, but there was quite a few sibling Deaths, followed by both parents, was she sure, did you see the 1901 Trove Newspaper Marriage notice, posted earlier, says youngest Daughter of late William Tucker, with death of Ellen Dorothy, could be right, Mary being eldest)

Need her on 1891, Emily being at home 1871, 1881, no sign of an Amy on those...

I have Amey (Amy) Barrett Tucker's marriage to Frederick Charles John Marks 12th September 1901 at Trinity Church Norseman father down as William Tucker a Auctioneer & mother Louisa Barrett, Her sister Mary Anna Tucker born 1865 Chard married Frederick Gilmore in 1892 in NSW, they must have come to Perth as she died 14th November 1947 at Esperance W A
I had first thought Amey might have been Mary & she didn't like the name so moved it around a bit but then I discovered she had a sister Mary Anna so that wasn't the case.
I find it odd that we can't find her on any census!!!!

Mary Ann remarried in 1912.
Definitely not Emma/Amy's sister.:

Mary Ann Laverick
in the Somerset, England, Marriage Registers, Bonds and Allegations, 1754-1914

Iin 1901 she's housekeeping for her father:

Mary Ann Laverick 40 - married, housekeeper for father
Mabel Victoria Tucker 13 - grand-daughter
(and some boarders)

Mabel Victoria doesn't appear to be Mary Ann's daughter..
Birthplace transcribed as "Bew Wondtey, London, England", but looks more like New Wortley (something) to me. Can't see such a birth.
If born in London, there are two possible births in 1887, but not mms Tucker.

However, it's not relevant - Mary Ann isn't Amy's sister.

ArgyllGran Report 23 Aug 2019 16:15

Possibly Mary Ann in 1881 ?? (OR at least, the Mary Ann who married John Laverick.)
And if so, she's not the sister of Emma/Amy - too old.

Not so easy to find afterwards.
Apparently no children of the marriage.

There are various records for a John Thomas Laverick in Stokesley (Yorkshire) and London - but no mention of Mary Ann.

Miss Monk is mentioned in the link above:

The 1890s saw the standard of matrons improve, as these ladies were selected from the United British Women’s Emigration Association’s experienced corps of matrons.27They continued to be paid by the colonial government, although trained and appointed by the association, and their gratuities were increased to £25 plus a return steamer passage to England.
The regular matron to the colony was Miss Mary Monk, who had accompanied parties to Western Australia prior to 1889 and continued working under the new scheme, supervising at least sixteen of its twenty-one voyages. An example of the professionalised matron which the British Ladies’ Female Emigration Society had earlier promoted, Monk made a career out of her work as a shipboard matron, listing her occupation in the 1901English census as “Lady Superintendent of Government Female Emigrants to Western Australia”.
Mary Monk also accompanied other United British Women’s Emigration Association parties to various dominions, travelling extensively."

And other references.
